We caught up with Kyle Spiteri of Sydney band The Lesley Speakers, playing the Emergenza Festival this Wednesday the 3rd @ The Lair inside the legendary Metro and asked him a few fun questions.
This is what he had to say between a few giggles and some serious thoughts.
WHAT SORT OF SOUND CAN THE PUBLIC EXPECT FROM YOU AT THE LAIR?
The sound they can expect?...well, a whole lot of fingerpoppin, groovy rockin tunes. we want people to dance to our music and feel the energy of punk rock. its rawness and its fun.
HOW DID YOU ALL MEET & HOW LONG HAS THE BAND BEING TOGETHER?
We all are/were students of Saint Lukes grammar school. We all happened to be at the canteen at the same time chatting away and an idea came to me... let's start a band! and we've been rehearsing in my sweaty narrow bedroom for about 2 years now getting songs down and learning the craft.
THE NAME: WHY LESLEY SPEAKERS? WHO CHOSE IT? REALLY GUYS….NO LIES ALLOWED OK? ;)
We were tossing up between a few names and didn't feel inspired and then our music teacher was telling us about his good old days playing the hammond organ and how he used to run it through an old pair of Lesley speakers.... and thats how it all started!
IF YOU CAUGHT YOUR BEST FRIEND’S LITTLE BROTHER LISTENING TO REALLY CHEESY DANCE MUSIC, WOULD YOU:
A) TIE HIM UP AND FORCE HIM TO LISTEN TO YOUR FAVOURITE BAND
B) LET HIM BE
C) TELL HIM TO PICK UP AN INSTRUMENT
What!?!?! well, definitely C
…...AND FINALLY, IF YOU'D WON EMERGENZA FESTIVAL AND WENT TO GERMANY TO PLAY THE HUGE STAGE AND COULD ONLY TAKE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING WITH YOU WHAT WOULD IT BE?
A) A REALLY GOOD CAMERA
B) EXTRA MONEY
C) GIRLFRIEND/BOYFRIEND
Well......A ...actually no wait. OK A it is.
And so our chat is over and we wish The Lesley Speakers the best of luck for their performance on Wednesday at The Historical Metro Club in George street.
