You have participated in the Emergenza Festival Edition 2014/2015. What made you decide to take part in it?
To tell you the truth, we decided to participate in this competition because it was organized by non-Korean people. We have never won any kinds of music competition trophiesin Korea. Music competitions held here are very unfair. Rather than competing musicitself, other things such as friendship with competition organizers and influenceof contracted music agency, affect more in the process of deciding winners. In some cases, winner is already decided before the competition begins. We are not powerful or influential existence in Korea. What we only believed was the confidence in our music so far. One day, I heard the news that Emergenza competitionis planned be held in Korea. We thought ‘non-Korean’ competition would be different and work for us. At least it could be fair. So we applied and what you saw the result. We could win the competition for the first time in Korea.

As you approach the world final, what is your state of mind?
Of course, weare extremely excited.  We want to showour existence to the world, especially to the so-called powerful musicproducers in Korea. A band, which had to swallow the sorrow of being a musician in Korea, is now standing on the stage in spotlight with people from all overthe world.

What is your best memory from your Emergenza experience?
The moment that audiences raised their hands to vote for our stage. We saw almost every people raised their hands.

What's behind your band's name? Any specific meaning?
It doesn’t have any specific meaning. If we have to say, it was named after leader’s full name “LeeYoon-Chan.” Or maybe it’s because Lee Yoon-Chan is the most handsome one?

If you had to choose a famous song that represents your band...which one would it be?
I cannot pickone song because we have many of it. People say our music is similar to Sting,U2 and Coldplay.

If your band had another name, what would it be?
Well, it was always so hard to decide the name of the band. Lee Yoon-Chan band is the fourth name so far. It was The DeepSong when we first start, and then it became Deep Song, 24th Day andnow. It is too difficult to name a band. Actually, we just decided to name after leader’s nameto avoid being annoyed by naming.

Can you tell us a funny story or anecdote about your experience on stage?
As we said, weare not a famous band. So, we have little fans.
As the voting system of Emergenza is by a show of hands, the band with many fans is supposedto win more hands.
But, we won thethree or four times more, or even more hands than we brought in the competition. It was so interesting to see the fact that we made people showtheir hands which are supposed to be raised for other bands they came to see.

What can audiences expect from one of your live performances?
We have any specific routine gestures or performances. Our existence playing music on thestage is the performance itself.
Maybe, we couldn’t have showed those performances because we never played our music in abig stage. We would like to do some fireworks or some actions with stunning lights on the stage. But so far, our natural gesture while playing music is our performance.
Just listen toour music. We can absorb all the audiences through only playing music on thestage.

Before you go on stage, do you have a ritual or a good luck charm that goes everywhere with you?
It is not alucky charm. It is a yellow ribbon. The ribbon is made to remember a disaster happened in Korea last year. It is called “Sewol ferry disaster”. We will remember thedisaster that killed over 300 people’s life. Many Koreans wear it not to forget about what happened. We wear the ribbon all the time on the stage in Korea. Ofcourse we will wear it in Germany too. (In Korea, if you are wearing the yellowribbon, police might come to you to question you only because of the fact thatyou are wearing it. Korea’s President is a daughter of former dictator.)

What is your dream gig?
We have two.First of all, it is the Europe tour, which will be the next step after winningthe first place of Emergenza World Final. Second, performing in Korea. Ofcourse we are born in Korea, but we want to be recognized over seas first andthen, be imported to Korea. Like Jimi Hendrix did.

Do you guys have any hobbies? What do you do when you don’t play?
We do many things. We eat food, drink, social network and so on. But I know this isn’t something special. I, sukjin, dolike to daydream or think. I imagine random things. It could be fantasy, but Icontinue to think. When I am daydreaming, time flies like an arrow.

12. If you could invite a band or an artist at your party, dead or alive, who would it be?
I, sukjin, can list too many musicians who I admired since I was little. I would like toinvite Michael Jackson, Carpenters, Norah Jones, Sting, former member of FreddieMercury & Queen, John Mayer, former member of Eagles, Stevie Wonder, GeorgeMichael and so on. I can say more.

What are your short to medium term plans after the international final?
We have some contracts to perform on the stage for now. And also we are in the middle of making our single album song named “Carry On.” And then second full album as well. Thatwould be our short-term plan. But, if we win the first place of the Emergenzaworld final, that changes the whole story.
If we win, our mid-termplan will be making new songs and practicing and recording them in Sweden. And then Europe tour will be our long-term plan.
