The interview with Massix from Adelaide, live @Fowler's Live on Wednesday, July 8th for Emergenza Festival Australia:
LET'S TALK ABOUT THE ORIGIN OF YOUR BAND: WHEN WAS IT BORN AND HOW?
Massix was formed in 2012, between highschool mates Brodie Julian and Harrison Auger. The two had been performing alongside each other for some time in music class, and swiftly discovered their musical chemistry. Following a few line-up changes, by 2014 Massix became the ensemble you now know today.
WHAT ARE YOUR MUSICAL INFLUENCES?
Being a predominantly Heavy Metal group, Massix take influence from an array of artists like Metallica, Bullet For My Valentine, Avenged
Sevenfold, and Killswitch Engage - to name a few.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE? TALK US ABOUT THE PECULIARITIES OF YOUR MUSIC!
Our style tends to contrast dramatically in the midst of the songs themselves, let alone between them. Venturing into dark territory with the
screamed vocals and heavy riffage, the songs can easily shift to a clean melodic section in a matter of seconds - as well as finding a balanced
medium between the two extremes. But no matter the intensity at which the song is being played, Massix's cleverly written hooks (both vocal or
instrumental) will always find a way to ring on in the listeners' head long after the listening has taken place.
IS THERE A SONG THAT IS SPECIAL FOR YOU? IF SO, WHICH ONE AND WHY?
For different reasons, there are different songs that possess meaning for different members of the band. You're welcome to ask us about that at
the next show, if you like!
ON AVERAGE, HOW MUCH TIME DO YOU SPEND PLAYING AND HOW CAN YOU BALANCE
THIS WITH YOUR EVERYDAY LIFE?
The gentlemen of Massix generally gather once every weekend to work on and further discipline their sound as an ensemble. Although at times it may prove inconvenient, as we find ourselves sacrificing our Saturday afternoons quite often, we're aware of what the priorities are.
HOW DID YOU KNOW ABOUT EMERGENZA FESTIVAL AND WHY YOU DECIDED TO TAKE PART IN IT?
We first heard about it through social media - a very convenient tool in today's music scene. We decided to take part in the festival because, quite
frankly, we're always eager to play shows and we'd take any opportunity that presents itself.
DOES THE COMPETITION WITH OTHER BANDS WORRY YOU OR GIVE YOU ENERGY?
It doesn't worry us at all. It's always good fun meeting other bands at these sort of events. It allows you to set up some very good connections
and you find yourself playing gigs with these people not long after. Bands need to help each other out! It's very much a community.
WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FROM EMERGENZA AND HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT YOUR FIRST EMERGENZA CONCERT?
We expect it's going to be one heck of a night. We're excited to show more of Adelaide what we do and, with any luck, dazzle them senseless. See
you there! \m/
