The heat rises in Sydney at The Lair!

    Heat 5 - Sydney - The Lair - 20/05/15

    Funk Engine

Kicking of the night in style was four piece instrumental jam band Funk Engine. This band has some serious groove! All members have some serious chops and displayed their skill throughout the set which also featured amazing solos by all members!

    Crossroad Y

Crossroad Y opened up their set with a very catchy up tempo number called ‘Summer Days’ which had the crowd up and about from the start! It was the highlight of the set! They brought it down a notch from there and played some more ballad type tunes. All the songs were well written and arranged, but energy on stage was nonexistent which made it hard for the crowd to stay engaged. Something that can be easily fixed up if the band works at it and brings it to the big stage!

    Halcyan

Halcyan brought a stack of energy to the lair which got the party started! Third song of the set ‘Utopia’ was the highlight of the set with its disco like dance feel. They had the youth up and jumping by the end of their set!

    The Desert Suns

The Desert Suns brought a loyal fan base to the lair to show off their spacey and sometimes psychedelic set. They started with an epic piece before upping the tempo in the middle of the show which got the crowd up and dancing! Final song of the set ‘Faceless enemy’ was the highlight with its nice groove and riff. Bass player Cameron was a standout in a band that has plenty of talent and plays very well together!

    Womb Catacomb

The biggest crowd of the night came to see young up and comers Womb Catacomb and what an energetic bunch of fans they were! After rocking out to most of the bands that played on the night they saved their best for the band they came to see and went mental for the entire set! Obviously there was a reason for this and the reason was the band itself! Womb Catacomb put on a highly energetic and entertaining set which is hard not to get carried away with! Also the musicianship is all there and they play brilliantly together as a band! Of particular note were the skills of Oliver on drums and Patrick on lead guitar! A killer set from Womb Catacomb!

    Huntsman

Rap duo Huntsman brought a different flavour to the night with a front man whose lyrical free styling wowed the crowd! The beats per minute were up, but nowhere near as high as the words per minute! This guy has some real stage craft and worked the crowd into a frenzy by the end of the set!

    Fox and the Hound

Fox and the Hound could be the love child of the kooks and the arctic monkeys as it is obvious they are influenced by these types of bands. This isn’t a problem it is a compliment as they play very catchy tunes! They have a very good guitarist who is very tasty at times and played some nice melodies and cool riffs. Beside a little muck up on the intro for the final song of the set it was the highlight!
