The interview with Giant legs from Sydney, live @The Lair @ Metro Theatre on Wednesday, April 22nd for Emergenza Festival Australia:   

PLEASE TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR BAND: HOW AND WHEN WAS IT BORN?
Giant Legs was established in 2014 when two mates working at The University of Sydney discovered each others musical passion.

WHEN DID YOUR INTEREST IN MUSIC BEGIN? AND HOW HAS YOUR MUSIC CHANGED FROM THE MOMENT YOU BEGAN TO PLAY TOGETHER?
Cristian has been playing music since the 80's and as such his musicality is heavily influenced by this period of catchy tunes and analogue sounds.
This has definitely influenced the way he writes and composes songs for Giant Legs. Tim has been playing music since the 90’s and has been heavily influenced by the alternative scene in recent times. Lately his interest has been in sound engineering to incorporate both his and Cristian’s ideas into the alternative folk/rock sound of Giant Legs that you hear today.

HOW DO YOU CREATE A SONG? (WHO WRITES LYRICS, THE MUSIC, ETC...?)
Cristian and Tim collaborate to form the structure of both the music and lyrics. Usually a demo is recorded on a smartphone for audio reference
accompanied by a guitar and vocals.  Then a recording session is scheduled to bring to life the original composition. Though they bring together two
distinctive styles of music, they grow and feed off each other's work. This is the Giant Legs way.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC TO PEOPLE WHO DON'T KNOW YOU?
Giant Legs has an alternative rock base, sharpened by the influences of folk and eclectic melodic sounds.  They are one of the few bands to utilise the recorder as a major component in their music. This provides an incredibly unique focal point to their sound.

WHICH BANDS INSPIRED/INSPIRE YOU?
Cristian's music is heavily influenced by La Ley and Hall and Oates.  Tim was inspired by Nirvana and Pearl Jam along with many other grunge/punk
rock bands of the 90s. More recently he has been inspired by a range of genres from folk to electronic. The two of them have managed to blend 2
unique music styles.

TALK TO US ABOUT THE PECULIARITIES OF YOUR MUSIC!
Giant Legs uses the sound of the recorder in quite a number of their songs giving it a unique native South American element amongst the alternative
folk/rock.  While Giant Legs are currently a 2 piece arrangement, they use their musicianship to professionally pre-record bass lines (either bass
guitar, cello or double bass) and sometimes other instruments such as the ukulele, lead guitar, recorder and synth to give a full bodied sound in
their live performances.  Also, each composition has significant meaning for the individual who wrote it, reflecting their emotions and psyche at
the time of composing. While a lot of Giant Legs songs have come together only in recent times, much of what you hear is a culmination of years of
genuine, heartfelt songwriting from two emotionally connected guys.

HOW DID YOU KNOW ABOUT EMERGENZA FESTIVAL AND WHY YOU DECIDED TO TAKE PART IN IT?
Giant Legs want to take their music to the next level.  This festival will give Tim and Cristian more experience and exposure. Their hope is to give
each audience member a memorable and unique musical experience. Ultimately, Giant Legs would love to have their sound heard as far as Germany!

WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FROM EMERGENZA AND HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT YOUR FIRST EMERGENZA CONCERT?
The festival will give Giant Legs a platform to perform their original compositions. We are incredibly excited and humbled to be part of such a
wonderful musical platform.
