The interview with Crimson Drones from Melbourne, live @the Espy on April 16th for Emergenza Festival Australia:
LET'S TALK ABOUT THE ORIGIN OF YOUR BAND: WHEN WAS IT BORN AND HOW?
The band formed in late 2012. We noticed that there was a massive lack of psychedelic bands in our local area, so we decided to fill the void. There was one super chilled out roots-rock/psychedelic band in the area, but they weren't the type of dream-pop/shoegaze type of psychedelia that we wanted, so we decided to be that band.
WHAT ARE YOUR MUSICAL INFLUENCES?
Our influences are a bit of a mixed bag. We borrow a lot of influence from Tame Impala, Pink Floyd and The Beatles. We are also indirectly influenced by bands like Tool and some of the later works of The Horrors, as well some electronica influence from bands liked Black Moth Super Rainbow and Miami Horror.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE? TALK US ABOUT THE PECULIARITIES OF YOUR MUSIC!
Our guess our style is a mix of 60's and 70's psychedelia with a modern twist. We also like to drop a bit of funk into our sets to spice things up a bit.
IS THERE A SONG THAT IS SPECIAL FOR YOU? IF SO, WHICH ONE AND WHY?
I don't think there is one song in particular that is special for us. I think Resistance Dreams is our favourite simply because it's one of our first songs and it has a that punch that really gives our set life.
ON AVERAGE, HOW MUCH TIME DO YOU SPEND PLAYING AND HOW CAN YOU BALANCE THIS WITH YOUR EVERYDAY LIFE?
On average, we spend about 2-3 hours individually practicing everyday and get together for band practice at least once a week.
HOW DID YOU KNOW ABOUT EMERGENZA FESTIVAL AND WHY YOU DECIDED TO TAKE PART IN IT?
We were contacted by Francesca who gave us all the deets. We decided to get involved because we love playing gigs as much as we can.
DOES THE COMPETITION WITH OTHER BANDS WORRY YOU OR GIVE YOU ENERGY?
I would say it gives us energy because it's a great time to meet other bands and hear different styles.
WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FROM EMERGENZA AND HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT YOUR FIRST EMERGENZA CONCERT?
I expect a fantastic time and I reckon our first Emergenza concert will be really grouse!
