Interview with The Anti-Fall Movement before the first round of Emergenza!

Let's meet The Anti-Fall Movement from Melbourne! They'll play live @ The Espy for Emergenza Festival Australia on Wednesday, April 15th!

An interview with The Anti-Fall Movement that will play in round one of Emergenza Festival Australia:

LET'S TALK ABOUT YOUR BAND NAME: WHO CHOSE IT AND WHY?
We heard this Christian social justice activist talk about the idea of a movement of people which would reverse the devastating effects of human greed and selfishness and we liked the idea. We also liked the idea of us being more than a band, but a collective of people, which is the way it's turned out because sometimes we have a lot of people playing in our gigs!

PLEASE TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR BAND: HOW AND WHEN WAS IT BORN?
We started six or seven years ago. Peter Carolane (one of the lead singers) and I had been in previous bands together and just started mucking around with putting music to hymn lyrics.

WHEN DID YOUR INTEREST IN MUSIC BEGIN? AND HOW HAS YOUR MUSIC CHANGED FROM THE MOMENT YOU BEGAN TO PLAY TOGETHER?
I was in a choir when I was young. I also learnt piano, contemporary guitar, classical guitar etc, did a lot of pub gigs, busking, you name it. The other guys have been in lots of different line-ups too, eg Michael (our drummer) brings VCA jazz drumming into the mix as well.

    WHAT ARE YOUR MUSICAL INFLUENCES?
Haha, that's giving the game away, but here goes - Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Simon and Garfunkel, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, Radiohead, Ryan Adams and Al Bowlly.

IS THERE A SONG THAT IS SPECIAL FOR YOU? IF SO, WHICH ONE AND WHY?
I've always liked 'Open, Open' from our first album because it's simple and captured the mood we were after well.

WHERE DO YOU GET INSPIRATION TO WRITE SONGS (EVENTS, MOOD....)?
We've done a fair bit of writing by the beach and also at Halls Gap.

HOW DID YOU KNOW ABOUT EMERGENZA FESTIVAL AND WHY YOU DECIDED TO TAKE PART IN IT?
I'm not sure about how Emergenza found out about us - it might have been Soundcloud, Facebook or some other online way.

WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FROM EMERGENZA AND HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT YOUR FIRST EMERGENZA CONCERT?

I expect that they'll promote us to the best of their ability and I'm excited to play!
