The interview with Victor steele from Sydney, live @The Lair @ Metro Theatre on Thursday, March 26th for Emergenza Festival Australia:
LET'S TALK ABOUT THE ORIGIN OF YOUR BAND: WHEN WAS IT BORN AND HOW?
I am a solo artist, and play with session musicians. I've been singing for a few years, but only started guitar lessons 2 years ago. I wrote my
first song after 3 lessons, to the amazement of my guitar teacher, and that song was on the radio last year, and I just kept on writing since. The rest
is history, as they say…
WHAT ARE YOUR MUSICAL INFLUENCES?
I'm frequently told that people can hear the Red Hot Chili Peppers in my music, and I'm even told that I sound a lot like Anthony Kiedis. That
stands to reason: By The Way is one of my favourite albums, and I've listened to it more times than I can count. Jack Johnson is another
favourite of mine, and he's responsible for the mellower aspects of my songs. As a teenager, I was in a rock band, and we would do a lot of Pearl Jam,
Guns'n'Roses and Nirvana.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE? TALK US ABOUT THE PECULIARITIES OF YOUR MUSIC!
I guess you could describe it as easy listening/rock music. It's pretty laid back, but catchy enough to dance to. I'm very proud of all of my
songs- they're all different, but they are all catchy, and they all have my signature on them. They're all very simple and easy to follow, and they all
tell a story. Each of them is a real story from my diary, which you can read on my website www.v-factor.com
IS THERE A SONG THAT IS SPECIAL FOR YOU? IF SO, WHICH ONE AND WHY?
All of my songs are special because they are all real stories involving real people. Most of them are about the three loves in my life, but my
favourite is Beautiful Thing- that girl was a true phenomenon, and I met her walking down the street :D
ON AVERAGE, HOW MUCH TIME DO YOU SPEND PLAYING AND HOW CAN YOU BALANCE THIS WITH YOUR EVERYDAY LIFE?
At the moment, I'm spending an hour or two a day on music, as I'm writing new songs as well as preparing for shows. Ordinarily, I would do
2-3 hours a week when I'm working full time. It's a struggle, but if you're passionate about it, you'll make it happen.
HOW DID YOU KNOW ABOUT EMERGENZA FESTIVAL AND WHY YOU DECIDED TO TAKE PART IN IT?
I just got a random email asking for submissions of music. I saw that there was a chance to go to Germany, and I jumped at it. I love Germany- I
speak the language, and I've been there about ten times. Plus, it's also another opportunity to perform.
DOES THE COMPETITION WITH OTHER BANDS WORRY YOU OR GIVE YOU ENERGY?
There are a lot of very talented musicians out there, but the don't really worry me. I believe in my music and my ability as a performer, and
the competition sounds very fair, so I believe that whatever happens, the best band will win :D I'll just do my best, and hope that it's me.
WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FROM EMERGENZA AND HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT YOUR FIRST EMERGENZA CONCERT?
I'm not really sure what to expect, other than having 25minutes to impress the crowd and the judges. I don't really feel nervous, as I sing my
songs all the time. I'm actually disappointed not to have the whole ninety minutes of stage time so that I can do all of my songs….
