The

for Emergenza
Festival Australia:
LET'S
TALK ABOUT THE ORIGIN OF YOUR BAND: WHEN WAS IT BORN AND HOW?
LDL
was born in Hamilton, NZ in 2011. Ollie, Matt, Dom and Ian started
composing as an instrumental band, releasing a self titled EP in 2012
and then the full length "Anatomical Design" in 2013. We
played several high profile gigs and quickly made a mark, opening for
Between the Buried and Me and Animals as Leaders. Late 2013 saw a
relocation to Melbourne (for all except Ian) and after a brief hiatus
the band reconvened in mid 2014 and quickly enlisted vocalist
Tarquin. Immediately starting gigging and recording, we have recorded
a re-jigged EP of songs with vocals from "Anatomical Design"
and started work on our first album as LDL...2.0.
WHAT
ARE YOUR MUSICAL INFLUENCES?
Faith
No More, Pantera, Opeth, Primus, Dream Theater, King Crimson, Van
Halen...anything with soul, groove and melody.
HOW
WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE? TALK US ABOUT THE PECULIARITIES OF
YOUR MUSIC!
We
have many names for our sound...pleasure groove, organic metal being
a couple. We don't put any limit on what we write...at the same time,
if it isn't strong enough musically to get past the four of us, it
won't survive! The strangest thing about our music is that it doesn't
belong to any one genre...and that is something we are proud of.
IS
THERE A SONG THAT IS SPECIAL FOR YOU? IF SO, WHICH ONE AND WHY?
All
our songs are special to us. They are like kids...you don't pick a
favourite. Or if you do, you keep it secret from the other kids
haha.
ON
AVERAGE, HOW MUCH TIME DO YOU SPEND PLAYING AND HOW CAN YOU
BALANCE THIS WITH YOUR EVERYDAY LIFE?
Put
it this way...everyday life sometimes gets in the way of
playing!
HOW
DID YOU KNOW ABOUT EMERGENZA FESTIVAL AND WHY YOU DECIDED TO TAKE
PART IN IT?
We
had heard about it being a respected competition so we decided if we
could get our music to people that might not otherwise hear it, why
not? Typically we dont like to enter "competitions" but
being a band starting out in a new country, we embrace any
opportunity.
DOES
THE COMPETITION WITH OTHER BANDS WORRY YOU OR GIVE YOU ENERGY?
We
don't really see it as being in competition with any bands, it's more
of a chance to meet new people and have a good time!
WHAT
DO YOU EXPECT FROM EMERGENZA AND HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT YOUR FIRST
EMERGENZA CONCERT?
We
expect to have a great time, rock some socks and meet some new
friends! How do we feel about the first concert? PUMPED! SEE YOU IN
THE PIT!!!
