The
interview with Plymouth,
live @ the
Espy on
Wednesday, March 18th for Emergenza
Festival Australia:
LET'S TALK ABOUT YOUR BAND NAME: WHO CHOSE IT AND WHY?
Well
actually I (sasha - guitarist) chose the band name because I was
watching a show on the first ever affordable cars: the Plymouth, and
they ran under the tagline of "if you have a good job, you can
afford a Plymouth".. I thought that was a funny way to market
cars so thus the band name.
PLEASE TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR BAND: HOW AND WHEN WAS IT BORN?
The
band was born out of myself and Tobias (our keyboards) jamming
together aimlessly for about a year, me slowly learning Tobi's
delicate touch on the keys and Tobi slowly learning my love for
psychedelia and dreamy guitar tones.
WHEN DID YOUR INTEREST IN MUSIC BEGIN? AND HOW HAS YOUR MUSIC CHANGED FROM THE MOMENT YOU BEGAN TO PLAY TOGETHER?
Personally
my music interest began when riding in the car with my mum, me
playing random songs on her triple classical music compilation CD and
her trying to guess what song was being played. The next step was my
discovery of blues. I would say our music has altered simply from
playing with other people: one must compromise and minimalize
sometimes so that was hard to learn.
WHAT ARE YOUR MUSICAL INFLUENCES?
I
think what makes us special is that we all have a totally different
taste in music while often converging in what we all think is "good".
I love psychedelic rock and all the groove that comes with it whilst
our singer, Zac, likes more of a folky soft touch and acoustic guitar
compisitions, our Keys player is a fan of all things dance, from
disco to funk to EDM, and there's a reason our drummer bangs as hard
as he does, he loves hard rock! Having recently added a bass player
and sax player it's incredibly exciting learning their musical
influences too.
IS THERE A SONG THAT IS SPECIAL FOR YOU? IF SO, WHICH ONE AND WHY?
Okay
my turn to take over (Daniel) the song that is most special to me
would either be People or Rocking Chair. People because the second
half of it is a massive dedication to Pink Floyd, a common favorite
amongst all of us & Rocking Chair because of the raw energy that
is produced between all of us when we play it. All of us really
connect with each other as musicians especially when we are playing
these two songs.
WHERE DO YOU GET INSPIRATION TO WRITE SONGS (EVENTS, MOOD....)?
So
we get our inspirations very randomly. Either by complete chance
something will come into one of our heads and we'll try put it down
and send it to the others so we try pick things out of a jam that
happens completely naturally.. or sometimes our keyboard player will
try out-do himself with complicated chord progressions.
HOW DID YOU KNOW ABOUT EMERGENZA FESTIVAL AND WHY YOU DECIDED TO TAKE PART IN IT? WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FROM EMERGENZA AND HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT YOUR FIRST EMERGENZA CONCERT?
We
found out about Emergenza Festival from an e-mail send to out band
address and we were incredibly attracted by the final being held in
an open air festival in Germany. Otherwise we love going to the Espy
(or at least some of us do) and would love to play a kickass show
there and then at the HI-FI lounge if so happens.
