The
interview with Bonfire Bison, live @ The Lair @ Metro Theatre on
Thursday, April 23rd for Emergenza Festival Australia:
PLEASE TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR BAND: HOW AND WHEN WAS IT BORN?
Our
music can be classified as alternative rock. We formed around August
2014, with our bassist Sam joining around november 2014. Skylar and
Dylan spoke to each other about a band for a while, as we are all at
the same school. We got Jason involved, and by then it all took care
of itself.
WHEN DID YOUR INTEREST IN MUSIC BEGIN? AND HOW HAS YOUR MUSIC CHANGED FROM THE MOMENT YOU BEGAN TO PLAY TOGETHER?
We
all have shared a love for music far before we formed, with Skylar,
Dylan and Sam all having been through tutoring for an instrument
sometime in their life. Our sound hasn't changed since we have
started, however we are now making songs that are more difficult to
play, and are exploring a few different effects while playing.
HOW DO YOU CREATE A SONG? (WHO WRITES LYRICS, WHO MUSIC, ETC...?)
At
the start, Dylan wrote his part and lyrics for it, and Skylar created
a beat for it. However now, each member plays a role in creating a
song; Sam makes a riff, Dylan his own progression, Jason makes the
lyrics and Sky hits the drums. We have moulded well, and when making
a song we just play what feels and sounds right.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC TO PEOPLE WHO DOESN'T KNOW YOU?
Our
music can be said to come from the alternative rock umbrella, but we
have a good mix of heavier and softer songs.
WHICH BANDS INSPIRED AND INSPIRE YOU?
Our
music is inspired by the sound of the Strokes, the Arctic Monkeys,
and the Black keys. We don't focus on crazy solos or difficult parts,
but just music that people can sing to.
TALK US ABOUT THE PECULIARITIES OF YOUR MUSIC!
We
mould well, and when playing on stage we don't have a strict form in
which we play; we just have fun and go with what we feel.
HOW DID YOU KNOW ABOUT EMERGENZA FESTIVAL AND WHY YOU DECIDED TO TAKE PART IN IT?
Our
bassist Sam brought it up to us, and the prospect of playing at an
official venue in front of a crowd of people was very enticing to us.
WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FROM EMERGENZA AND HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT YOUR FIRST EMERGENZA CONCERT?
We
expect to learn what is needed to perform at a professional level,
and also what songs work best in a mosh/crowd environment. We are
very excited for Emergenza and can't wait for the 23rd of April!
