Interview
with Friendly neighbourhood from Melbourne! They will play live at
first round of Emergenza Festival Australia on Wednesday, March
18th!
LET'S TALK ABOUT THE ORIGIN OF YOUR BAND: WHEN WAS IT BORN AND HOW?
I
started producing music through ableton about a year ago, and have
since been working on recreating it all live, using synthesizers,
guitars and sample pads (no DJ decks)
WHAT ARE YOUR MUSICAL INFLUENCES?
I
have a lot of influences, from blues to soul to hip hop to electronic
music, but the main influence is anything that is unexpected, and
keeps me guessing.
HOW
WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE? TALK US ABOUT THE PECULIARITIES OF
YOUR MUSIC!
It's
vaguely industrial electronic, a little experimental, and little bit
soulful.
IS
THERE A SONG THAT IS SPECIAL FOR YOU? IF SO, WHICH ONE AND WHY?
It's
hard for there to be one particular song for me, but "I'm So
Depressed" by Abner Jay has been with me for a while.
ON
AVERAGE, HOW MUCH TIME DO YOU SPEND PLAYING AND HOW CAN YOU
BALANCE THIS WITH YOUR EVERYDAY LIFE?
I
play pretty much everyday, but my whole life is centred around my
music. I'm studying Audio Engineering at the moment, so it isn't hard
for it to take up a large part of my life.
HOW
DID YOU KNOW ABOUT EMERGENZA FESTIVAL AND WHY YOU DECIDED TO TAKE
PART IN IT?
I
was contacted by Emergenza after they heard my music on the Triple J
Unearthed website. I took part becasue, clearly, it is a huge
opportunity.
DOES
THE COMPETITION WITH OTHER BANDS WORRY YOU OR GIVE YOU ENERGY?
The
competition doesn't worry me at all, because essentially every artist
or band is in the same boat, and we all just want to perform, as well
as have people hear our music.
WHAT
DO YOU EXPECT FROM EMERGENZA AND HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT YOUR FIRST
EMERGENZA CONCERT?
I'm
honestly expecting very little from the festival apart from the
experience it will give me. I'm pretty keen though.
