The interview with BradleyOwens band, live @ The Lair @ Metro Theatre on Wednesday, March 25th for Emergenza Festival Australia:
PLEASE
TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR BAND: HOW AND WHEN WAS IT BORN?
We
are four university mates all studying contemporary music
at Macquarie
and graduating this year. We all clicked when performing
group projects
in assesments and became good mates. Bradley
is the charismatic one, Ramon is the misunderstood one, Jonno is the
romantic one and Zach is the one with the hat.
WHEN
DID YOUR INTEREST IN MUSIC BEGIN? AND HOW HAS YOUR MUSIC CHANGED FROM
THE MOMENT YOU BEGAN TO PLAY TOGETHER?
My
personal interest in music began at an early age, competing in
Eisteddfods and rocking it out as a little dude. A song can change
and gain
a real energy or mood when being played by multiple musicians. It's
cool to see how far the songs have come from just an acoustic
guitar to
an entire band set up.
HOW
DO YOU CREATE A SONG? (WHO WRITES LYRICS, WHO MUSIC,
ETC...?)
Bradley:
"For me, music is the hardest thing about writing a song, I
feel like
people respond purely to the music rather than lyrics in a
live situation.
Lyrics come very easily to me and usually come after the main musical
riff or chord progression. There is only one song in the set called
"Just A Girl"
that was written with lyrics first.
HOW
WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC TO PEOPLE WHO DOESN'T KNOW YOU?
A
little poppy, a little kinky, a little cheeky, a little jangly and
very catchy.
"Braddle-pop" is music that wafts through the air like
lavendar.
WHICH
BANDS INSPIRED AND INSPIRE YOU?
We've
all got our own individual music tastes my own influences include
The Beatles,
America, The Eagles, Crowed House, Oasis, and more recently
Fleet Foxes
and Mac Demarco. Jonno on bass is really into his Soul,
RnB and Blues music with John Mayer and D'Angelo being some of
his biggest
inspirations. Zach has a lot of influences over a number of
genres most
notably Jack White for his heavier stuff and the likes of Vance
Joy, Bob
Dylan, Jake Bugg and The Tallest Man On Earth for more of his
folky acoustic
tunes. Ramon like Zach can play almost any style (and any instrument)
rich in multiple musical styles with roots in heavy metal and
heavy
rock including influences such as Guns N Roses, Metallica and
Steve Vai.
TALK
US ABOUT THE PECULIARITIES OF YOUR MUSIC!
With
each member bringing their own unique style and approach to
playing their
instruments we have pretty much every genre known to man
covered. This
provides a unique twist on my original songs, as
the other members have complete control over their own parts.
Every member
both with musicality and personality comes together to provide
an entertaining,
unusual and eclectic final product.
HOW
DID YOU KNOW ABOUT EMERGENZA FESTIVAL AND WHY YOU DECIDED TO
TAKE PART
IN IT?
I
was lucky enough to recieve an email in my inbox asking if I had
any original
music I wanted to share to see whether I'd be able to take part. We
decided to take part, to gain experience/exposure, get another gig
under our
belt, and
most importantly play an awesome set to a great crowd at a
special venue.
WHAT
DO YOU EXPECT FROM EMERGENZA AND HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT YOUR
FIRST
EMERGENZA
CONCERT?
I'm
expecting to have a great night, hear some good tunes and play a
memorable set. I'm hoping to have a big year in 2015 with the release
of my
debut EP in the second half of the year. We
can't wait to play at The Lair and we're stoked to be playing our
first
Emergenza
gig.
