The
interview with Sloppy
Kiss Soirée,
live @ The
Lair @ Metro Theatre on
Wednesday, March 25th for Emergenza
Festival Australia:
LET'S
TALK ABOUT YOUR BAND NAME: WHO CHOSE IT AND WHY?
Founding
member and frontdude Jonny chose it when the first demo was complete.
Initially it was going to be Sloppy Kisses, however if you typed that
into google all you got were various links to pet stores and
porn sites.
No particular reason why it was chosen. It kind of had a ring to
it? It's
dumb/great.
PLEASE
TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR BAND: HOW AND WHEN WAS IT BORN?
Started
as a solo punk project in late 2013. Jonny recorded a 7 track
demo titled
'Frothing At The Mouth & Eating The Furniture' consisting of
guitar, bass,
drums and vocals, which was undertaken in his Russian pal
Roman's living
room.
WHEN
DID YOUR INTEREST IN MUSIC BEGIN? AND HOW HAS YOUR MUSIC CHANGED FROM
THE MOMENT YOU BEGAN TO PLAY TOGETHER?
The
three of us have been aroused by music for as long as we can
remember, particularly garage punk, garage rock, and the convenience
of storage things in a garage. The style of Sloppy Kiss Soirée
started off as a mild salsa, and now with a powerful trio it is
indeed extra spicy!
WHAT
ARE YOUR MUSICAL INFLUENCES?
Other
local bands, all styles and artists from the last 100 years from all
over planet earth. Anything really, as long as it's not boring or
super fake, it'll influence us in some weird way.
IS
THERE A SONG THAT IS SPECIAL FOR YOU? IF SO, WHICH ONE AND WHY?
We
all love playing Baby Sitar. It's a new one and changes from slow to
fast multiple times, being a little less predictable. It seems to
move the audience's bodies more too.
WHERE
DO YOU GET INSPIRATION TO WRITE SONGS (EVENTS, MOOD....)?
So
far we've been inspired by apples, tetanus shots, goats, giggling,
warm clothes, childhood hooliganism, bouncy balls, silly girls, dumb
boys, teeth, exhilarating experiences, family, friends, and fear
:)
HOW
DID YOU KNOW ABOUT EMERGENZA FESTIVAL AND WHY YOU DECIDED TO TAKE
PART IN IT?
We
got asked to play and decided to do so because playing live is always
fun. We've never done a band comp before. Sounds exciting.
WHAT
DO YOU EXPECT FROM EMERGENZA AND HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT YOUR FIRST
EMERGENZA CONCERT?
We
don't know what to expect. We're just looking forward to playing to a
different crowd and alongside other artistes. Keen!
