We asked some questions to the SODASQUID from Melbourne to better know their music and their personalities:

LET'S TALK ABOUT YOUR BAND NAME: WHO CHOSE IT AND WHY?
Michael is a recreational scuba diver, on a dive he saw a small squid inside a soda bottle so he came up with the name Sodasquid which I liked too.

PLEASE TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR BAND: HOW AND WHEN WAS IT BORN?
Michael and I have known each other for a long time and we have been in different band line ups together over the years so in 2014 we decided to try and be a hard rock band with just the two of us; in this way things are less complicated as we only have to deal with two personalities, it is just as much fun to play we just have a backing track that has bass guitar and a second guitar then I play the drums and Michael plays guitar and sings.

WHEN DID YOUR INTEREST IN MUSIC BEGIN? AND HOW HAS YOUR MUSIC CHANGED FROM
THE MOMENT YOU BEGAN TO PLAY TOGETHER?
We both started playing our instruments in high school, Michael is very talented and can also play bass guitar and piano I can only play the drums, we have always liked rock band based music which is what the sound of all the bands we have been in have been like.

WHAT ARE YOUR MUSICAL INFLUENCES?
Over the  years for me I can say Led Zeppelin, Sex Pistols, Devo, Guns And Roses, Nirvana, and probably my favorite is Smashing Pumpkins. For Michael he likes more lead guitar music like Eric Clapton, Dire Straits, and Van Halen, bands like that.

IS THERE A SONG THAT IS SPECIAL FOR YOU? IF SO, WHICH ONE AND WHY?
For myself it would be "Paranoid" because we were going through our Pumpkin phase and this song is our best take on how they sound on some of their songs, but just the feel and style of it, we don'’t copy any of their riffs. 

WHERE DO YOU GET INSPIRATION TO WRITE SONGS (EVENTS, MOOD....)?
We normally just jam for hours and Michael will play some interesting riffs that we both like then we slowly add more to make verses, choruses', middle 8, intros and so on until we have the structure of the song musically, then we both sit down and write the lyrics whatever is in our heads at the time. Finally which ever words go best with the music we keep and do a quick recording. Then later we do a proper recording with our home studio gear.

HOW DID YOU KNOW ABOUT EMERGENZA FESTIVAL AND WHY YOU DECIDED TO TAKE PART
IN IT?
Well it was your initial contact Francesca, that made us aware of the Festival (thank you) and we wanted to take part in it be because we like the concept that an organization is try to give unsigned bands an opportunity to play in quality venues and get some exposure and it's also fun to play on stage.

WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FROM EMERGENZA AND HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT YOUR FIRST EMERGENZA CONCERT?
We hope to progress through the competition and receive some positive comments, and also to show people that our version of a Rock Band is cool too.
