The interview with FACETS from Melbourne before the first round of Emergenza Festival Australia!

PLEASE TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR BAND: HOW AND WHEN WAS IT BORN?
FACETS formed back in 2010 back when we were in high school. We’re just a bunch of close mates who wanted to form a band and jam out. Since then we’ve had some other members come and go.

WHEN DID YOUR INTEREST IN MUSIC BEGIN? AND HOW HAS YOUR MUSIC CHANGED FROM THE MOMENT YOU BEGAN TO PLAY TOGETHER?

We’re all very inspired by music and that’s something that’s always been our passion. Writing music together has been a fun challenge. It’s given us the opportunity to bring
all of our different styles and influences together and broaden our horizons to the many options of song writing.

HOW DO YOU CREATE A SONG? (WHO WRITES LYRICS, WHO MUSIC, ETC...?)

Our songs usually begin from a simple guitar melody or chord progression, which
we use as the foundation of our songs, usually the chorus line. From there we all collectively add our parts while maintaining to the natural flow of the song. Lyrics are usually written either by Pazzi or Dan. We try to keep our lyrics very non descript and let the music do the talking.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC TO PEOPLE WHO DON’T KNOW YOU?
Indie/Alt. Rock with a side of Fuzz and Verb. Catchy, punchy and ear piercing.

WHICH BANDS INSPIRED AND INSPIRE YOU?

All of the members in FACETS are inspired by different styles of music. Collectively I guess we’d say Interpol, MEW, My Bloody Valentine, Phoenix and The Maccabees inspire us.

TALK US ABOUT THE PECULIARITIES OF YOUR MUSIC!

Some of our distinctive features are we play fast. Some songs are 160bpm or faster. We feel much more comfortable playing fast and hard as we want to leave people stunned.

Another thing we do when recording is to use some pretty odd sounding guitar sounds that wouldn’t usually sound good by themselves but in the mix they work to our advantage. We often keep mistakes in our songs to add character and leave people thinking.

HOW DID YOU KNOW ABOUT EMERGENZA FESTIVAL AND WHY YOU DECIDED TO TAKE PART IN IT?

Francesca contacted us out of the blue and we thought it’d be a great opportunity. Our goal this year is to do a lot more gigs.

WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FROM EMERGENZA AND HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT YOUR FIRST EMERGENZA CONCERT?

We cant wait! We’re very excited to play. Emergenza are providing bands with an excellent opportunity to get our there. We’re expecting the competition will be tough, but it will be great to see what other bands are playing.
