Tuning Up Before The Gig With Nathan Varga

In this pre-show interview acoustic guitar prodigy Nathan Varga gets us geared up for his show for the state finals at The Hi-Fi this Sunday

Back on stage are the intense acoustic guitar tunes of Nathan Varga, who’s taking fingerpicking to a whole new level. You won’t want to miss your chance to hear his acoustic guitar magic on stage at the prestigious Hi-Fi where he once agains goes head to head with a long line up of amazing local talents in the state finals of Emergenza Festival Australia this Sunday, November 30th. Before the show, we catch up with the artist:

EXPLAIN TO US WHAT’S DIFFERENT ABOUT YOUR SOUND FROM ANY OTHER BAND IN YOUR GENRE?
The way my songs can change mood is a big thing. It goes through a sequence of moods and my music is more written similar as an abstract painter. The music gives a strong impression and the listener will have many feelings through the engaging rhythms, dynamic quality, and very melodic textures. I put lots of feeling, passion and love in how I'm playing and in what I'm doing. And I've really gained confidence to do that in such an authentic way.

WHAT FIRST GOT YOU INTO SONG WRITING AND PLAYING LIVE?
Well Andy McKee inspired me to take a different approach to music, and the possibilities with what I could do. Watching his video "Drifting" took me on a journey of constant never ending improvement. Seeing his ability and the songs he wrote really moved me. I just told myself I want to do that for as many people possible, but in the Nathan Varga way. So that's just what I have been doing for years now with 23 songs, playing live really empowers me. I am giving my gift to all those who I perform for.

WHAT’S SPECIAL ABOUT A NATHAN VARGA GIG?
I'm focused on giving people an experience rather than to just perform. With my hands creating the sounds while people see the different techniques I use, it is usually a challenge to pin point where they are coming from. I love to take people on a journey where they are listening in awe. My Aunty mentioned to me "It is sunlight for your soul. The most special thing about is the level of intimacy and artistry. It invites people to come up closer to me. I think that's why so many people I perform to really enjoy it. I do a lot to make it really special for people. Up on stage it's my purpose to use my experience, stories and music to evoke deep feelings that remind people how great they are. And that it lives inside them. And that they can do incredible things. My energy is directed towards the audience and I enjoy radiating that out engaging with people. I'm playing for them. It's a gift to them. I'm very much sensitive to my audience and what's happening around me. I really put passion and heart in to it. I give it my all.

WHAT’S THE MOST INSANE PART OF EMERGENZA SO FAR?
The journey and how each part of it has exposed me to so many people. It's everything. The process of going through each stage. I'm so grateful. The impact I've had on the audiences. People getting really engaged. Clapping, cheering, crying. Emotions and feelings are powerful. When I impact others it impacts me. It's inspired me and will continue to keep the fire burning inside.

HOW’S IT FEEL TO BE IN THE STATE FINALS? AND WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST ABOUT PLAYING THE HI-FI?
Feels mighty good. Rewarding. And I'm just thankful for the support from everyone. I'm incredibly passionate about the finals and to bring a big team of supporters down. I'm just looking forward to playing at the HI-FI most! I love to experience new things, and engage with different audiences performing my music. The world is for exploring. It's our birthright to take our passion and make an impact around the world.
