Cynthia Su Back For More With Her Soulful Vox

Sydney soul singer Cynthia Su catches up with Emergenza before she sings in the semifinals at The Factory Theatre this Thursday

Australian RnB singer songwriter Cynthia Su was ecstatic after her last performance at The Metro Theatre in Sydney. Since then, she’s been locked down in the studio working on new material, refining her live stage presence and honing her vocals. As she’s revving up for another show, this time at The Factory Theatre for the semi-finals of Emergenza Festival Australia, the artist sits down to catch us up on what she’s been doing to prepare between gigs. Don’t miss your chance to see the diva in person this Thursday, November 13th, and in the meantime, check out our pre-show interview with the artist.

FOR THOSE WHO DIDN’T GET TO SEE YOU IN THE FIRST ROUND, CAN YOU INTRODUCE US TO YOUR MUSIC?
Reflective, neo-soul, romantic and very edgy, with a "fresh & unique" perspective on things. Her raw emotions, are encapsulated in her lyrics, which are inspired by her real-life experiences and her soulful, edgy melodies will definitely get you hooked. Definitely get pumped for what's coming. With provocative lyrics in “D.N.A.” you can definitely hear her 90’s RnB upbringing, whereas in “Star Chaser” the moody, soulful vibe of artists like John Legend , and more emotional tracks will embellish her vocal prowess as she delivers all her own original material, for her EP , SOUL DNA.

WHAT WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE FIRST ROUND FOR YOU?
The highlight of the first round was performing “DNA” and “HERE I AM” live, and interacting with a very responsive crowd feeling the vibe of my music. Performing my original songs, from my EP SOUL D.N.A was a real thrill, LIVE and I loved the energy and the crowd interaction.

OUT OF ALL THE SONGS YOU PLAYED, WHICH ONE GOT THE BIGGEST REACTION OUT OF THE CROWD AND WHY DO YOU THINK THAT IS?
I believe the crowd loved “Keep it in CHECK”, the starting track, “D.N.A.” and “HERE I AM”, as the lyrics are relevant to a lot of people, so they could relate with the songs, and they have great energy and bounce.

CAN YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE IN THE FIRST ROUND AND WHAT YOU LEARNED FROM IT?
I learned more about my style of performing, and my ability to interact with the crowd, and sustaining the crowd's interest, whilst building up the energy to keep the flow of the performance. I really believe I and my band pulled that off proficiently last time.

WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN UP TO BETWEEN GIGS AND WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING TO PREPARE FOR THE NEXT PHASE OF THE COMPETITION?
In the studio and working on new singles, “SHE CRIES", "STAR CHASER 1 & 2" and "Radio" as well as other feature tracks for licence and extended release on my EP @ https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/soul-dna-ep/id784693922 … Been tweaking my sounds and gigging….

SO HOW DOES IT FEEL BEING ONE STEP CLOSER TO THE EMERGENZA FINALS?
Feels great... and high level of anticipation.

WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO TAKE AWAY FROM YOUR UPCOMING CONCERT AT THE FACTORY THEATRE
THE WIN and learning more about live performance and tweaking my LIVE SHOW... to maximize the crowd's interaction.
