Mark Bowley
Kicking off a little heat four at The Gov was Mark Bowley. Armed with an acoustic guitar and a sweet voice to match, he swooned through a set of acoustic folk pop ballads. Mark was backed up by the beautiful harmonies of Luke Tuckey! Clever lyrics built on honesty kept listeners paying full attention to this duo who were the perfect way to open the night!
Lighthouses
The next act of the night was also a duo by the name of Lighthouses! Led by front lady Georgy on 12 string acoustic guitar and sweet sweet vocals, she was well backed by Lachlan on six string acoustic. Lighthouses kept the crowd in awe for a set of beautiful and touching songs. The charm of this set was each song had a little bit of a different feel to it which kept the listeners intrigued, including a haunting and catchy whistling riff in second song ‘Raindrops.’ Third song ‘Dance Tai Chi’ was a more up-tempo tune with brilliant lyrical content! Thanks for a mesmerising set Lighthouses!
The Raging Monkeys
Bringing a new style to the night and possibly a new genre were The Raging Monkeys! Progressive folk is a term that may best sum this band up with their styles crossing from acoustic to heavy sounds very quickly and with ease! Even some funk sounds were present. Final song ‘Riverside’ was a highlight of the set with its intro building up before bursting into one huge sound delivered by this trio of drums, bass, vocals and acoustic guitar!
