A great night of Melbourne music in Semi 5!

Semi Final No. 5 - Melbourne - The Espy Gershwin Room - 10/10/14

    Chained Lizard

Bringing back big 80's stadium rock, Chained Lizard opened up semi five in The Espy Gershwin Room! They impressed the crowd with thunderous bass, wailing guitar and plenty of drum solos! Led by confident front woman Amy and backed by a loyal fan base they powered through their set of four original tunes with gusto and kicked off the show in style!

    Beneath Tomorrow's Sun

It's always good to see a band improve and that is exactly what Beneath Tomorrow's Sun have done since their first show with us in The Espy Basement! ‘See it Through’ was a highlight of the set with it’s killer guitar playing by Adam throughout the verses! Who knows what could lie Beneath for this young band!

    Animus

As always, Animus brought another huge crowd to The Espy! They have such a huge following because they deliver one hell of a show! They surprised the crowd from the get go with regular drummer Dylon moving from the back on drums to up the front on guitar, alongside another new guitarist and a new drummer up the back! It proved to be a great move from the boys with their show now going to the next level and everyone seeming to enjoy themselves a lot more!‘Lies’ was an absolute highlight of the set! The future is bright for Animus!

    Ruckus

Country lovin’ country playin’ guitar slingin’ cowboys Ruckus took to the stage with their approachable and friendly nature winning them many new fans on the night! For this semi set they were also joined by a fiddle player, and she could play that thing like the Devil and Johnny from down Georgia way themselves! Even the metal heads managed a good old fashioned head bang in several moments throughout the set! A foot stompin’ good time was had by all and the crew from Ruckus delivered once again!

    Jumpbox

Superheroes Jumpbox took to the stage with a slightly different line up to their first heat in The Espy Basement and with some different marvel comic characters as well! A real credit to the band was that they seemed to be a lot tighter and a lot more polished now!

    Hyperdrones

Something that was obvious after Hyperdrones first heat in The Espy Basement was that these guys needed to show their stuff on the big stage. Hyperdrones got their chance in semi five and they delivered a much improved set that definitely works very well on the big stage!Clarke smashed the kit and lapped up the wide open spaces of The Gershwin Room! Hyperdrones have great chemistry and everyone in the band is on the same page. Hyperdrones certainly made some new fans on the night!

    Heads and Hearts

Heads and Hearts play with a lot of passion and have stacks of energy on stage which makes them a good band to watch! Lots of vocals up front were good at times but messy at others whilst the band could be a lot tighter. Their songs are well constructed and written and with a little more polish this band could be a regular on the scene!

    Red Soaking Wet

One of the most enjoyable acts to watch on the night was Red Soaking Wet! These punks know what punk is all about but also don’t take themselves too seriously. They are born entertainers and anyone into the punk scene would absolutely love these guys! The other bands, most noticeably Ruckus and their fans, lapped these guys up and Red Soaking Wet converted many people to their music by the end of the set! A great finish to a great night of Melbourne Music!
