Ash Archer & the Spitfires
After seeing Ash Archer & the Spitfires in The Espy Basement first heat anyone could see that this band, especially Ash, is ready made for the big stage! Ash proved this to be true by opening up semi four in his usual energetic and rock star style! Opening track ‘Radio’ was a real crowd pleaser before playing a popular cover song. In fourth song ‘Black Eyes’ Ash pulled out the harmonica for a more country vibe tune which went down a treat! The whole band has improved out of sight since their first show with us, which is a real credit to their hard work and rehearsals! Closing track of the night 'Let it Burn' was a highlight of the set!
Lipstuck
The girls from Lipstuck were next up and a change of lipstick brought new colour to this band and they all seemed to enjoy this set a lot more than their first heat in The Espy Basement. Not only did the band enjoy themselves more but so did the crowd! Third song of the set was a highlight and was followed by two new tunes which were refreshing and a well received moment of the set; especially the second new tune with its keyboard driven melody! An enjoyable set from the Lipstuck girls!
Chief Protagonist
When the drummer of young band Chief Protagonist called in sick, they didn't let that worry them, they just called on a friend to come in and do the job! They blasted through a set of up tempo original tunes which pleased their loyal fans and the new drummer did an excellent job!
TWSS
TWSS are another band that is born to play on big stages! There is something about their shows that makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up at times! A big part of it is the immense passion they put into their show and also the way they play their music with all their heart and soul! No wonder they have developed such a large and loyal fan base that always shows up to their shows! Another high energy performance from these guys that impressed everyone in the room!
Saint Henry
Two piece post grunge rockers Saint Henry sure know how to create one hell of a big sound! This duo has a larger sound than most four and five piece bands! They certainly play hard and always give 100%, no matter if the room is full or empty! More work on stagecraft and a bit more polish on the tunes will see these guys develop a larger fan base and see them really make a name for themselves!
Rasta Unity
One of the best female lead reggae bands getting around the Melbourne scene at the moment was the next act to hit The Espy Gershwin Room stage. And led by a single female this time they were! Unfortunately backup singer Adriana couldn’t make the semi show so Candice stepped up to the plate and fronted the five piece on her own! Candice did an excellent job and this performance out-shone the first heat performance by a long way! Candice seemed to go up a notch and really embraced being out front on her own! ‘Global Warming’ was a highlight of the set! Fat bass provided by Elie along with perfect reggae drumming from Ricardio laid the foundations for a super set from these reggae warriors!
The Black Harrys
There is no doubting the talent that is within the trio from The Black Harry’s. They played a strong and varied set complemented by some well written songs. All members of The Black Harrys have natural ability and showcased it throughout their performance.
Static Revenue
Static Revenue closed out the night in The Espy Gershwin room with their loud and raw metal sounds! Lead by an energetic front man that captivates on lookers with his on stage performance, they made the room sound full! Once the rest of band matches his energy it will be an awesome show to see!
