Adelaide folk rock trio Lighthouses sits down to chat with us before they take the stage at The Gov this Thursday, October 30th for round one of Emergenza Festival Australia. We find out all about the influences that make up their signature sound and why they’re so excited to play The Gov. Check it out here:
HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE NAME LIGHTHOUSES?
We chose the name Lighthouses when we were living on the south coast of SA in a dodgy little beach shack, which we nicknamed the Lighthouse. This was where the band began, and as much as we tried to find other titles Lighthouses has stuck with us.
WHAT’S YOUR LIVE SET UP LIKE?
Our live set up is simple and minimalistic, with three band members in total.
IF YOU COULD DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND IN THREE WORDS, WHAT WOULD THEY BE?
Quirky, folk rock.
WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR MAJOR MUSICAL INFLUENCES?
Between the three of us, our musical influences are varied. I draw a lot of inspiration from Feist, Claire Bowditch, The Beatles and Lachie is into Bob Dylan, The Gaslight Anthem and Rise Against. Jarrad's taste in music is a bit heavier but that makes the dynamics of the band really work.
WHAT'S THE CRAZIEST THING YOU'VE DONE TOGETHER AS A BAND?
Lachie and I once got the crazy idea we needed to drive to Melbourne for breakfast. It's not exactly a quick drive but luckily the breakfast was worth it!
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST ABOUT YOUR SHOW AT THE GOV?
For us playing on a stage that we grew up watching our favourite bands play on would be a massive highlight of Emergenza. The Gov is such an iconic venue in Adelaide, and we are super excited to be playing there.
WITH OTHER BATTLE OF THE BANDS COMPETITIONS AROUND, WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE EMERGENZA?
For us it was really timing and luck. Having just moved to the city, we couldn't pass up this opportunity. We just want to share our music with as many people as we can and hopefully Emergenza will help us achieve this.
