Before Adelaide band Awaken Cicada smashes the stage at The Gov with their heavy-hitting tunes, the band sits down to talk to us about their influences and their thoughts about their upcoming live show. HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE NAME AWAKEN CICADA?
The name came about from myself (Matt) as an influence from a song title from a Silverchair song titled “Cicada” but added the extra bit at the start to change it up a little.

WHAT’S YOUR LIVE SET UP LIKE?
Our live set up consists of drums, two guitars, bass and three vocals with one of them being lead vocalist.

IF YOU COULD DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND IN THREE WORDS, WHAT WOULD THEY BE?
Heavy, melodic and groovy.

WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR MAJOR MUSICAL INFLUENCES?
As a band we tend to be influenced by older bands like Metallica and Black Sabbath all the way to newer bands like Killswitch Engage.

WHAT'S THE CRAZIEST THING YOU'VE DONE TOGETHER AS A BAND?
Craziest thing we have done together as a band is agree to play at a wedding in December, haha.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST ABOUT YOUR SHOW AT THE GOV?
Looking forward to playing at a venue we have never played at before as well as a bunch of different bands and artists of different genres, so for us it will be an interesting but good night!

WITH OTHER BATTLE OF THE BANDS COMPETITIONS AROUND, WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE EMERGENZA?
We chose Emergenza because we felt that we could give ourselves the chance to play in a bigger venue as well as have a shot at playing in Sydney and hopefully Germany. But we are doing it mainly for fun and the reason why we chose Emergenza is because of the opportunities of where you get the chance to play at!
