Measuring Up Calibre Before The Show

Talking to Adelaide band Calibre about how they’ll stack up for round one of Emergenza Festival at The Gov this Wednesday

Before Adelaide band Calibre takes their explosive acoustic/electric rock ballads to the stage at The Gov for round one of Emergenza Festival Australia, they sit down with us to indulge a few of our curiosities. Don’t miss your chance to catch them on stage this Wednesday, October 29th, and in the meantime, check out what the band had to say in this pre-show interview.

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE NAME CALIBRE?
Calibre the name was chosen for its meaning a degree of personal excellence. Playing an instrument as a lifer brings us to this.

WHAT’S YOUR LIVE SET UP LIKE?
Our live set up... I play acoustic guitar through a Marshall JCM900. My brother Tim uses a Hartke amp and five-string bass. Frago uses Vox and a selection of guitars, Andrew has a Roland electric kit and we use a Yamaha DTX3 electric kit also. I sing most of the mains with Karen on back up vocals as well as Andrew. We all have our own characters. And jam as our hobbies.

IF YOU COULD DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND IN THREE WORDS, WHAT WOULD THEY BE?
    Acoustic rock ballads.

WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR MAJOR MUSICAL INFLUENCES?
All music, all genres influence us. We are mixed but share our influences together. Personally I love “Through The Glass” by Stone Sour... and “Bother”. But grew up in the 70's, 80's and 90's and studied classical guitar as a kid.

WHAT'S THE CRAZIEST THING YOU'VE DONE TOGETHER AS A BAND?
Craziest thing we did was Cummins Festival 2007 only two weeks notice played along side The Butterfly Effect and Mammal. Awesome experience on a big stage. Tarago van road trip and hospitality of The Cummins Hotel.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST ABOUT YOUR SHOW AT THE GOV?
Showcasing some of our originals and exposing ourselves as artists of Calibre.

WITH OTHER BATTLE OF THE BANDS COMPETITIONS AROUND, WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE EMERGENZA?
Emergenza found and contacted us with reference to our material on soundcloud.com and requested us to enrol. Or maybe triplejunearthed. Com.
