Preparing For More Crash Through Craziness

Sydney band Crash Through gets us in the mood for their rock and roll and on stage antics tomorrow night at The Factory Theatre

The first round certainly wasn’t short of onstage antics, by now a signature of Sydney band Crash Through. And don’t think the semi-finals will be any different. Check out our pre-show interview with the band where they talk to us about what went down for round one and what’s in store for tomorrow night at The Factory Theatre for the semi-finals.

FOR THOSE WHO DIDN’T GET TO SEE YOU IN THE FIRST ROUND, CAN YOU INTRODUCE US TO YOUR BAND CRASH THROUGH?
We're an indie rock band from Sydney named after Gough Whitlam's belief that you have to "Crash Through or Crash". We like to improvise and try and push music in less obvious directions.

WHAT WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE FIRST ROUND FOR YOU?
Playing "Get It Gone", that's always a difficult one for us to get the groove perfect on, but it was definitely right that night.

OUT OF ALL THE SONGS YOU PLAYED, WHICH ONE GOT THE BIGGEST REACTION OUT OF THE CROWD AND WHY DO YOU THINK THAT IS?
"Milk Crate" definitely got the biggest reaction—there may have been headbutting of cymbals and a hands-only drum solo involved.

CAN YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE IN THE FIRST ROUND AND WHAT YOU LEARNED FROM IT?
Playing a shorter set than we're used to has definitely made us approach things in a different way, trying to refine a few songs instead of heading off on a sonic journey. We do have songs on our CD's that are longer than 20 minutes

WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN UP TO BETWEEN GIGS AND WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING TO PREPARE FOR THE NEXT PHASE OF THE COMPETITION?
We've been rehearsing hard every week and playing with the set list to get the perfect 20 minutes of Crash Through across to the world. We think we've got it nailed this time.

SO HOW DOES IT FEEL BEING ONE STEP CLOSER TO THE EMERGENZA FINALS?
Pretty exciting! There's some great bands involved, and we're probably a little too weird to get too far, but it's been great to be a part of it so far!

WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO TAKE AWAY FROM YOUR UPCOMING CONCERT AT THE FACTORY THEATRE?
See some more great bands, play a great set and generally have a good night!
