    Pre-Show Conversation With Chief Protagonist

Melbourne band Chief Protagonist sits down to talk to us before they go on stage at The Espy for the semi-finals

Melbourne band Chief Protagonist are back again with their raucous, out of control, rock and roll tunes this Thursday, October 9th at The Espy for the semi-finals of Emergenza Festival Australia. Don’t miss your chance to see them battle it out in an attempt to get to the finals. While you’re waiting for them to go on, check out our pre-show interview with the band.

FOR THOSE WHO DIDN’T GET TO SEE YOU IN THE FIRST ROUND, CAN YOU INTRODUCE US TO YOUR BAND CHIEF PROTAGONIST?
Chief Protagonist for the upcoming show will be Gracie Glen on vocals, Jarrad Fisher on lead guitar, Anthony Jenkins on bass guitar, Luca Cirillo playing rhythm guitar and introducing Tyson Montague on drums who will be covering for our injured drummer Jonathan.

WHAT WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE FIRST ROUND FOR YOU?
The highlight was getting to play The Espy and getting through to the next round obviously.

OUT OF ALL THE SONGS YOU PLAYED, WHICH ONE GOT THE BIGGEST REACTION OUT OF THE CROWD AND WHY DO YOU THINK THAT IS?
Probably the biggest reaction was for the cover of Seven Nation Army. I'd say that had to do with people being familiar with that one more than our songs.

CAN YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE IN THE FIRST ROUND AND WHAT YOU LEARNED FROM IT?
It was fun and loud and cramped and we were generally happy with how we performed.

WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN UP TO BETWEEN GIGS AND WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING TO PREPARE FOR THE NEXT PHASE OF THE COMPETITION?
We've been rehearsing with our new drummer and played another battle of the bands also at The Espy and we got through to the next round which is pleasing.

SO HOW DOES IT FEEL BEING ONE STEP CLOSER TO THE EMERGENZA FINALS?
It feels damn awesome if I do say so myself.

WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO TAKE AWAY FROM YOUR UPCOMING CONCERT AT THE ESPY?
Hopefully we can play better together as a group and be tighter in our performance and exert more positive energy through our playing.
