Ash Archer and the Spitfires
The eccentric Ash Archer and his band the Spitfires were the first to hit The Espy Basement stage in heat 8. They burst into their opening track before Ash put down the acoustic for the second track and focused more on providing some on stage energy! Ash defiantly loves the stage and the spotlight and is backed by a fine band that provides the soundtrack for an energetic live show. The band wasn't super tight but with some more rehearsals things can be fixed up. The stage presence of the act covered up for a lack of tightness.
Chaser
Starting of with a slower ballad type song Chaser brought something different to the stage and front man Chris cut a lonesome figure before his band burst into life. The Chaser boys played their own brand of rock pop tunes and really seemed like a tight knit bunch of mates who love playing music together! The second last song of the night really got the crowd involved with people clapping along to the beat!
Rasta Unity
Reggae vibes were on show from our next act Rasta Unity. A six piece band with Candice and Adriana up front lead the on stage party! ‘Sweet Love’ was a highlight of the set! The musicianship in this band was first class although some improvement could come from the girls up front with better use of mic placement and vocal projection. ‘I Can't Believe’ was a highlight of the set and a great way to finish an Irie set!
Chasing Alice
This three piece rock outfit powered through a set if original material with enthusiasm. Solid grooves were laid down by bass player and lead vocalist Jamie. Drummer Julian smacked the drums in true rock and roll fashion, hard and fast. Lead guitarist Darryl enjoyed a solo on most tracks with ease and was enjoyable to watch!
Hyperdrones
Hyperdrones brought a different flavour to the night in The Espy Basement with a very unique and interesting sound. This band has some serious talent although an effects overload at times is taxing. Lead singer and guitarist Daniel has a great rock voice! Hyperdrones have bucket loads of energy on stage, the most of any band on the night and this keeps the listeners eyes on the stage. Matt on bass and Clarke on drums are a very tight unit. This is a band that could really make a bigger stage their own! A hyper set from the lads!
Red Soaking Wet
Not to be outdone in terms of energy, Red Soaking Wet blew the roof off with their high octane thrash punk rock set! Denim, leather, long hair, bandanas, no shirts, special guests, this act had all the ingredients of a true rock show!
