Right On Time With Chief Protagonist

Melbourne band Chief Protagonist hangs out to talk to us right before their gig at this Saturday at The Espy

Melbourne band Chief Protagonist isn’t wasting any more time hitting the stage. In fact, you can check out their raucous, out of control rock tunes this Saturday, September 13th on stage at The Espy where they’re battling it out in round one of Emergenza Festival Australia. Before they take the stage, read more about the band in this pre-show interview:

WHAT'S BEHIND THE NAME CHIEF PROTAGONIST?
We had been struggling to come up with a decent name for a while, then after one of our shows a friend came up to us and suggested Chief Protagonist. We laughed about it a bit a first but it ended up sticking.

WHO PLAYS WHAT IN THE BAND AND WHAT KEEPS YOU INSPIRED TO PLAY MUSIC TOGETHER?
For this gig we have a bit of a changed lineup. We have Gracie Glen on vocals, Anthony Jenkins on Bass, Jonathan Carter on drums, Luca "Fuzz" Cirrilo on rhythm guitar and Jarrad Fisher on lead guitar. We are inspired by the chance to bring happy earholes to the masses.

IF YOU COULD DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND IN THREE WORDS, WHAT WOULD THEY BE?
    Raucous, emotional, fuzz-cannon.

WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR MAJOR MUSICAL INFLUENCES?
We have some influences on our sound, notably Ty Segall, Wavves, Fidlar and Arctic Monkeys but we try to have our own sound and make original sounding music, not just copy what has been done.

WHAT'S THE CRAZIEST THING YOU'VE DONE TOGETHER AS A BAND?
One time we stayed up pretty late.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST ABOUT YOUR SHOW AT THE ESPY?
We are looking forward to playing to a crowd that is there to hear some good music and have a fun time.

WITH OTHER BATTLE OF THE BANDS COMPETITIONS AROUND, WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE EMERGENZA?
Emergenza is a really organized and well-structured event with some awesome rewards, when we heard about it we knew we needed to get involved.
