For the young girls of SheWolf, Emergenza Festival has been a growing experience. Taking feedback from their growing fan base, the girls are deciding to focus more of their energy on writing new material and shedding the cover songs. Surprises are in store for their semi final gig next Thursday, September 11th at The Espy, but one thing’s still certain: SheWolf is going to power through some serious old school rock and roll. You won’t want to miss out. While you’re waiting for them to go on, check out our pre-show interview with the girls in the band.
FOR THOSE WHO DIDN’T GET TO SEE YOU IN THE FIRST ROUND, CAN YOU INTRODUCE US TO YOUR BAND SHEWOLF?
We are an all-girl, Melbourne-based band, comprised of four 17 year old girls—a set of triplets and their life-long friend. We've been together since May last year, and we play all kinds of rock music, and since then have played at a variety of bars and pubs around Melbourne.
WHAT WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE FIRST ROUND FOR YOU?
The highlight of our first round of The Espy show down was playing in The Espy Basement for the first time—we had an awesome crowd, and the gig was so much and fun and something different!
OUT OF ALL THE SONGS YOU PLAYED, WHICH ONE GOT THE BIGGEST REACTION OUT OF THE CROWD AND WHY DO YOU THINK THAT IS?
Our original song "Poison Mist" got the best reaction, as at the end of our set people were still humming the tune, and they bopped along!
CAN YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE IN THE FIRST ROUND AND WHAT YOU LEARNED FROM IT?
We continually get feedback to play more original songs rather than covers as it allows the audience to get a sense of our sound, so we've been continuously writing for a while now!
WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN UP TO BETWEEN GIGS AND WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING TO PREPARE FOR THE NEXT PHASE OF THE COMPETITION?
As well as balancing school and writing new material, we've been playing gigs in pubs and bars around Melbourne for the experience and exposure.
SO HOW DOES IT FEEL BEING ONE STEP CLOSER TO THE EMERGENZA FINALS?
It’s really exciting to be one step close to the Emergenza finals and we can't wait to see what happens in the near future!
WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO TAKE AWAY FROM YOUR UPCOMING CONCERT AT THE ESPY?
We hope that people can remember us for our music and enjoy our performance comprised of all original songs.
