Sitting Down With The Guys From Third Best Friend

Melbourne pop rock power trio Third Best Friend indulges us in another round of questions before they hit the stage at The Espy for the semi finals

Since their last show Third Best Friend hasn’t skipped a beat, continuing to dedicate time to studio projects and nearly wrapping up their latest video clip, but don’t think they’ve lost focused on the semi finals—au contraire! This band is ready and raring to hit the stage in The Gershwin Room at The Espy for the next round of Emergenza Festival Australia. With killer tunes and some more stage experience in tow since their last gig, this Melbourne power trio will not disappoint. Before they go on stage next Thursday, September 11th, Emergenza catches up with the guys in the band.

FOR THOSE WHO DIDN’T GET TO SEE YOU IN THE FIRST ROUND, CAN YOU INTRODUCE US TO YOUR BAND THIRD BEST FRIEND?
Third Best Friend is a Melbourne based rock trio with a wide variety of musical influences between us. We've had fans suggest they can hear elements of You Am I, The Jam, Foo Fighters and The Who in our original songs.

WHAT WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE FIRST ROUND FOR YOU?
The first round highlight for us was the enthusiastic response we received from audience. We had a number of fans travel from interstate to see us.

OUT OF ALL THE SONGS YOU PLAYED, WHICH ONE GOT THE BIGGEST REACTION OUT OF THE CROWD AND WHY DO YOU THINK THAT IS?
Our song "Whisper" was really well received and it will be the first single from our debut album, which is near completion. We've used video footage from our last performance in the film clip for "Whisper". It's in the final stages of editing now. We can't wait to see the finished product.

CAN YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE IN THE FIRST ROUND AND WHAT YOU LEARNED FROM IT?
We were reminded how important it is to expect the unexpected when playing live. A string broke on one of the guitars mid-song, however we were able to quickly exchange it for another instrument and continue the song without major disruption.

WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN UP TO BETWEEN GIGS AND WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING TO PREPARE FOR THE NEXT PHASE OF THE COMPETITION?
Between shows we've been continuing to write new material and work on the final mixes for the album.

SO HOW DOES IT FEEL BEING ONE STEP CLOSER TO THE EMERGENZA FINALS?
While we're one step closer to the Emergenza finals, our focus is on making sure the next gig is first class and better than the last performance.

WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO TAKE AWAY FROM YOUR UPCOMING CONCERT AT THE ESPY?
Our next show will be in The Espy Gershwin Room, and it will be our privilege to play on a stage with such a rich rock 'n' roll history. We hope our performance there will be as memorable for our fans as it will be for us.
