The girls of Children of Indigo are looking forward to bringing another dose of rock and roll sass to stage at The Espy—last time they rocked out The Basement, and now they’re on their way on up to The Gershwin Room for the semi finals of Emergenza Festival Australia. They’re up against some stiff competition, but we think these girls have got the grit to get them through. Check them out on stage next Thursday, September 11th, and while you’re waiting for them to go on, check out our pre-show interview with Children of Indigo.
FOR THOSE WHO DIDN’T GET TO SEE YOU IN THE FIRST ROUND, CAN YOU INTRODUCE US TO YOUR BAND CHILDREN OF INDIGO?
Hey, we are Children of Indigo, a five-piece girl band from Melbourne. We’re not going to lie, sass drives most of our original songs and we try to add an element of sass to the covers we play. Miss Kara Moss is on vox, Kasia Silva on the drums, Kayla’s on bass, Liana on guitar and Alanna plays keys.
WHAT WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE FIRST ROUND FOR YOU?
We all really liked playing at the Espy. It was such a cool venue. We also really enjoyed performing and watching other the bands perform.
OUT OF ALL THE SONGS YOU PLAYED, WHICH ONE GOT THE BIGGEST REACTION OUT OF THE CROWD AND WHY DO YOU THINK THAT IS?
Our original song “Risk It All” generally gets us our biggest reactions from the crowd. We love playing the song live and we all get pretty into playing it.
CAN YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE IN THE FIRST ROUND AND WHAT YOU LEARNED FROM IT?
We learnt about stage presence and how to plan a set for an audience. We’re continuously learning about how to put on a good show for all audiences.
WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN UP TO BETWEEN GIGS AND WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING TO PREPARE FOR THE NEXT PHASE OF THE COMPETITION?
We’ve been playing some other gigs here and there and working on some new original material and covers.
SO HOW DOES IT FEEL BEING ONE STEP CLOSER TO THE EMERGENZA FINALS?
It’s so incredible. We’re so excited to be able to play another gig with the Emergenza crew and we loved The Basement and are really excited to experience The Gershwin Room.
WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO TAKE AWAY FROM YOUR UPCOMING CONCERT AT THE ESPY?
Some more gigging experience and hopefully a few new fans, that’s always nice.
