Talking to Punk Rockers Stacy Gacy

Sydney punk rockers Stacy Gacy sit down to talk to us before they hit the stage this Sunday, August 31st at The Lair

If you were wandering if punk rock was dead, just tune into Sydney band Stacy Gacy—their hard rocking, garage infused punk tunes prove that punk is alive and well. Come check out their insane stage show at The Lair this Sunday, August 31st when they battle it out in round one of Emergenza Festival Australia. Before they hit the stage, we took the time to get to know the guys in the band:

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE NAME STACY GACY?
The name actually came about when 3/4 were in another band called Jackie and the Rippers before it broke up. The guitarist Mitch and I were drinking and coming up with alternative names playing on serial killers until we came up with Stacy Gacy. So when we started this band we instantly had a name.

WHO PLAYS WHAT IN THE BAND AND WHAT KEEPS YOU INSPIRED TO PLAY MUSIC TOGETHER?
We have Mitch on Guitar, running around like a maniac. Jake is on Bass, dancing like a pro. Pat on lead vocals, climbing everything in sight and Luke on drums doin' his thing. We also all sing... or shout rather. What really inspires us to write and perform is the fun of going out there and causing a ruckus.

IF YOU COULD DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND IN THREE WORDS, WHAT WOULD THEY BE?
    Raw, chaotic party.

WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR MAJOR MUSICAL INFLUENCES?
We don't have many as a group because we're all so different as individuals. But, as friends do, we take the best and worst from each other, blending old punk like the Ramones and the Dead Kennedys with a bit of ska, metal, blues, pop rock and any of the experimental stuff Mitch listens to.

WHAT'S THE CRAZIEST THING YOU'VE DONE TOGETHER AS A BAND?
The band is fairly new so we've only ever been up to minor mischief. In saying that, we try and do everything as crazy as can be. One of our best nights was most recently when we had to follow a miss V8 super girl competition that was running very late at a local pub. All the old drunks were restless by the time we had to start so we skipped sound check and played double time to keep them interested. In the mean time, the drummer had a fractured foot, which he was drinking through, and it ended with a mosh pit, the guitarist at the back of the room and the singer performing whilst standing on the bar. Just your average Stacy Gacy gig.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST ABOUT YOUR SHOW AT THE LAIR?
It's a place we've always wanted to play and it'll be fun playing in front of some new people who wouldn't have heard us before.

WITH OTHER BATTLE OF THE BANDS COMPETITIONS AROUND, WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE EMERGENZA?
A lot of the other competitions around aren't fair or are poorly organised. Emergenza has a great prize and genuinely seems like a lot of fun!
