Full of build up and suspense, heavy instrumentals and an emphasis on layered harmonic structure, you can definitely understand this band’s self-description as rumbling, spacey, heavy when you listen to their debut, self-titled EP Hyperdrones. They wear their musical influences on their sleeves as well. Muse stands out as a major influence on songs like the opening track “Lockbox” as well as “Ashamed” in their epic instrumental parts, dramatic vocal delivery and dark subject matter. Not to mention riffs and rhythm galore and stacked harmonies a la Queens Of The Stone Age as in songs like “Slow Down”. They have a knack for writing memorable melodies, which make their edgy songs extremely relatable—mashing up the edgy and the pop. This is definitely an album that you’ll want to play over and over again… Or better yet, why not see them live?
