After some line up changes Melbourne band Chasing Alice finally found the magic in their current power trio format, featuring Jamie Tobias on vocals and bass, Darryl Jeremy on guitar, and Julian Kershaw on drums and backing vocals. Each component is fundamental to the band’s sound—described as a mash up of Pearl Jam, Led Zeppelin and U2. Take a song like “DFITJ”, which starts off with a break neck blues rock riff, powerful drumming, and edgy vocals before sliding seamlessly into a groovy jam. Totally straight forward, powerful rock and roll. In songs like “Superficial Princess”, you can definitely hear the Pearl Jam influence that might make some describe their sound as 90’s. And who says that’s a bad thing? It’s likely their flair for the old-school—you know back when musicians actually played instruments instead of pushing buttons—that gives these guys their charm.
