Word, Sound, Power: Rasta Unity
This Melbourne reggae band unites word, sound, and power into their musical message—come groove to it with them at The Espy, August 2nd
Melbourne band Rasta Unity fuses worldly influences into their vibe, evidenced by the fact that the band represents three different cultures—Brazilian, Australian, and Chilean—and they go out of their way to play with people from around the world… even going so far as to actually temporarily move the band to Brazil! They definitely fit right in with the message of Emergenza, whose international final unites artists around the world every year in Germany. Holding the Rastafarian culture near and dear to their hearts, they use their music as a tool to spread their passion for humanitarian and environmental issues. Take their song “Global Warming”—whose title speaks for itself—and whose lyrics “it’s getting hot, hot, hot…” take the edge off of what could have easily been a preachy subject matter and make it totally relatable. They’ve got coolness in the instrumentals to match that of their idols like Peter Tosh, Burning Spear, and of course—the Legend himself—Bob Marley. The sultry sax and snake rattle combined with the smooth RnB vocal lines like in the song “Groove Tonight” definitely make you want to groove to their music. Make sure to come down to see Rasta Unity perform live at The Espy tomorrow night, August 2nd when they go on for round one of Emergenza Festival Australia. More show info here.
