    Outta The Box With JumpBox Before The Show

    Melbourne band JumpBox gives us perhaps the quirkiest interview yet before they take the stage at The Espy this Friday

    Melbourne band JumpBox takes the stage at The Espy this Friday, August 1st for round one of Emergenza Festival Australia. Whether they’ll be sporting superhero costumes or not, well, we’ll leave that one up to their superfans to guess. There’s one thing for sure: they’re going to put on a one-of-a-kind rock and roll show, and you’re not going to want to miss out. Before they go on, check out our pre-show interview with the band.

    HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE NAME JUMPBOX?
    Batman: We were all camped at The Daily Planet in Metropolis, a.k.a. Johnno's Hideaway, and we were talking shop about our favourite subject (girls)…
    Ironman: (giggles) Banging birds, shagging Birds (as in Australia better known)… Thor: So the name Jumping Boxes came to name, which led to JumpBox…
    Superman: And we all looked at each other and thought… hmmmm, not bad!!
    Ironman:(still giggling)….

    WHO PLAYS WHAT IN THE BAND AND WHAT KEEPS YOU INSPIRED TO PLAY MUSIC TOGETHER?
    Thor a.k.a. Chris Hammond – vocals;
    Batman a.k.a. Lee Taylor – guitar/vocals
    Superman a.k.a. Johnno McCurdy – drums/vocals;
    Ironman a.k.a. Bill Ruffle – bass/vocals;
    Batman: Writing new material keeps us all amused and challenged.
    Thor: We all come from different musical orphanages (genres) like all good super heroes, so it's great to do different genres.
    Thor: Also we put our mix in arrangement to get that JumpBox sound happening.

    IF YOU COULD DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND IN THREE WORDS, WHAT WOULD THEY BE?
    Ironman: Superman can answer that one.
    Superman: Up, up and away... Oh, that's four words….

    WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR MAJOR MUSICAL INFLUENCES?
    Thor: Bob Marley, Kiss, Sweet.
    Ironman: Cream, Hendrix, Stones.
    Batman: Thin Lizzy, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden.
    Superman: AC/DC, Rose Tattoo, Bon Jovi.

    WHAT'S THE CRAZIEST THING YOU'VE DONE TOGETHER AS A BAND?
    Thor: Ordered Macca's in our super hero costumes and the kids in the store were all going "look Mum, look Dad—it's Superman, Batman, Thor and Ironman!"
    Batman: They thought it was part of the Macca’s promo and wanted their pictures taken.
    Ironman: So we had to all group up and take a few selfies with all the kids.
    Superman: Mind you, our food went all cold in the meantime, but we had to do it for the kids’ sake—it was funny to see!

    WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST ABOUT YOUR SHOW AT THE ESPY?
    Ironman: The whole buzz of being on stage and participating in the event.
    Superman: We are hoping that some of our superfans will be there dressed up as well.

    WITH OTHER BATTLE OF THE BANDS COMPETITIONS AROUND, WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE EMERGENZA?
    Batman: The choice was simple—we had to be part of this event. I mean, what super hero wouldn't want to be part of this event, which is a global show, at that.
    Superman: We'd love to go to Germany and rock the stages in Europe.
    Ironman: We are recognised as soon as we walk in to any building—we have the technology at Stark Enterprises…
    Thor: I truly believe that Emergenza Festival will be a great success for all participating bands, and we hope to make an impact on someone’s life when we play at the Emergenza event.
