Pep Talk With Des Chio Before The Show

Confidence-boosting talk with Melbourne indie pop band Des Chio before their semi final gig at The Espy this Thursday

The competition better watch out for Melbourne band Des Chio—they’re looking to move in on your fans! Confidently, this indie pop band hopes to knock out at least a top two position in the upcoming semi finals of Emergenza Festival Australia and take home some new fans on the way. Be sure to check them out at The Espy this Thursday, July 31st. While you’re waiting for the show, hear what the band had to say.

FOR THOSE WHO DIDN’T GET TO SEE YOU IN THE FIRST ROUND, CAN YOU INTRODUCE US TO YOUR BAND DES CHIO?
Des Chio is made up of Danté on guitar, Joel on bass, Kiana vocals and Dave on drums.

WHAT WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE FIRST ROUND FOR YOU?
The main highlight of the first round was how well the event was run, and seeing so many talented bands in one place was good.

OUT OF ALL THE SONGS YOU PLAYED, WHICH ONE GOT THE BIGGEST REACTION OUT OF THE CROWD AND WHY DO YOU THINK THAT IS?
YoYo got everyone jumping along with the beat, and all of our songs have meanings that can relate to people lives or have experiences.

CAN YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE IN THE FIRST ROUND AND WHAT YOU LEARNED FROM IT?
Not to trust other people’s equipment, more of technical issues with effects not compatible.

WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN UP TO BETWEEN GIGS AND WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING TO PREPARE FOR THE NEXT PHASE OF THE COMPETITION?
We have been in the studio recording an EP and writing new songs and experimenting with different sounds and also gigging heaps.

SO HOW DOES IT FEEL BEING ONE STEP CLOSER TO THE EMERGENZA FINALS?
It’s very exciting—we are hoping that we can pull through and join last year’s winners Mercury White on the pedestal.

WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO TAKE AWAY FROM YOUR UPCOMING CONCERT AT THE ESPY?
We are hoping to take out a top two position and build a fan base from the audience that has come to support other bands.
