Blessed and Buried: Putting the ‘Melodic’ in Melodic Hardcore

The emphasis is on melody for this melodic hardcore band from Sydney who hit the stage at The Lair this Sunday, July 20th

The new six-song EP entitled Rise From the Darkness from Sydney’s Blessed and Buried is a total knock out start for the band—clearly shows these guys have a long career ahead of them. Their post-hardcore roots go back to bands like Senses Fail and Funeral for a Friend, but most recently their song writing has been influenced by acts like Erra and August Burns Red. They’re now putting the emphasis on melody and incorporating more clean vocals then many of their contemporaries, and, man, does it pay off on the new album. Melody is literally oozing out of every song—and let’s be honest, melody is what makes songs most memorable. Don’t think they’re getting all soft on their hardcore fans though—Blessed and Buried is just as heavy as ever. Total precision in the instrumentals leads to tight, melodic riffs, powerful rhythm sections and explosive drums—enough wicked riffage and double bass pedal for even the hardest core listener. For a band that just started gigging in the past year, they’re totally positive about the opportunity to play out and show off their stuff for any potential new fans. Catch them this Sunday, July 20th at The Lair for round one of Emergenza Festival Australia. They’re going to lay it down. More show info here.
