Five-piece alternative rock band Colour Therapy from Sydney have already played with such big acts as Jinja Safari—no mean feat—but have yet to take on the quote-unquote “eastern” influences of that band’s indie tunes… no, for now Colour Therapy sticks with the tried and true: electric guitar, bass, drums, and vox. And it’s definitely working. They love to get their crowds moving at their live gigs and are going to use the tight groove in the songs off their brand new EP entitled Black Widow to do just that at The Lair this Sunday. The title track “Black Widow” melds guitar tone that could have walked off of the latest album AM by the Arctic Monkeys with the vocal coolness of the 80’s English underground. The lyrics “…black jeans… and black boots… and black hair… she’s gotta get you” become like a mantra slowly borrowing its way into your mind. Another standout is “Miss Rock N Roll” with its Raconteurs-esque groovy guitar that eases into darker, slower synth infused sound. No doubt, a fantastic start for this very young band.
