Hanging Out with Dyngrauk Before the Show

Sydney punk band Dyngrauk takes a break from, well, recreating to answer a few of our questions before they go on stage at The Lair

With a name like Dyngrauk, you know this band is going to be serious about partying and having a good time. Known for getting the mosh pit going with covers of Black Sabbath and The Ramones, they’ve got some originals up their sleeves that are helping to build up their very own local fan base. Before they take the stage at The Lair next Sunday, July 20th for round one of Emergenza Festival Australia Dyngrauk sits down to answer a few of our questions.

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE NAME DYNGRAUK?
I came up with the name Dyngrauk in a clothing shop in Sweden. It was printed on a t-shirt, and it wasn’t until I asked the cashier what it meant that I found out it was Swedish for shit faced drunk.

CAN YOU INTRODUCE US TO THE BAND?
The band is made up of myself and 3 other close friends who love the idea of going to a gig and going crazy in the mosh. I like to think that some of the enjoyment in music comes from how you can move to it.

IF YOU COULD DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND IN THREE WORDS, WHAT WOULD THEY BE?
If I could describe out sound in three words... they would be fast, sloppy and groovy.

WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR MAJOR MUSICAL INFLUENCES?
The major musical influences of our band would be Frenzal Rhomb, Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, and some Blink 182.

WHAT'S THE CRAZIEST THING YOU'VE DONE TOGETHER AS A BAND?
The craziest thing we’ve ever done together as a band would have to be playing our first (and unofficial) gig all in onzies, jumping around the stage and playing any songs that came into our heads from “Paranoid” to “Blitzkrieg Bop”. It’s unfortunate to say that among a line up of serious bands, we were the only to be encored that night.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST ABOUT YOUR SHOW AT THE LAIR?
I look forward to playing at The Lair as it is one of the most well known venues in Sydney. Just being able to say our band has played in such a place gives us immediate credibility.

WITH OTHER BATTLE OF THE BANDS COMPETITIONS AROUND, WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE EMERGENZA?
The Emergenza fest first caught my eye with the grand prize of playing in Germany in front of 80,000 people. Just imagining the power of being on stage in front of that many people gives me shivers
