    Blessed and Buried Unveiled

Emergenza gets to know this post-hardcore band before they grace the stage at The Lair next Sunday night

Emergenza drags this band out of the shipping container where they rehearse and get them to answer a few of our questions before they go on stage at The Lair next Sunday, July 20th for round one of Emergenza Festival Australia. Blessed and Buried talk to us about their musical inspiration, what sets them apart from other post-hardcore bands, and why next Friday night is going to be so sick.

WHAT'S THE INSPIRATION FOR THE NAME BLESSED AND BURIED?
We thought it sounded cool! Our drummer Jordan’s brother came up with the name, and we decided to roll with it.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE POST HARDCORE SCENE AND WHAT SETS YOU APART FROM OTHER BANDS IN THE GENRE?
We have all been listening to post-hardcore for years. It seems that at the moment most heavy bands are predominantly using screams with sometimes the inclusion of clean vocals. We are trying to keep the same heaviness in our music but use predominantly clean vocals.

WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR MAJOR MUSICAL INFLUENCES?
The music we listen to ranges from solo acoustic to metal and everything in between. We are all influenced by different artists. However, personally as a songwriter, I feel that I can trace the roots of my writing back to older post-hardcore bands like Senses Fail and Funeral for a Friend. That is not to say I am not influenced by stuff I am listening to at the moment. Bands like Erra and August Burns Red have really influenced my song writing over the last few years.

WHAT'S THE CRAZIEST THING YOU'VE DONE TOGETHER AS A BAND?
Some would say using a shipping container as our rehearsal space is pretty crazy! We are a pretty chilled bunch of dudes and tend not to get ourselves into too many crazy situations.

WHERE HAVE YOU PLAYED BEFORE AND WHAT WOULD BE YOUR DREAM GIG?
We really only started gigging this year. To date, I’d say our most memorable show was supporting Dream on, Dreamer at the Tattersalls Hotel. As for a dream gig, every opportunity we get to play our music to others is somewhat a dream gig for us.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST ABOUT YOUR SHOW AT THE LAIR?
Jordan and I saw For Today play at The Lair earlier this year. We really dug the venue’s atmosphere and are looking forward to being a part of it.

WITH OTHER BATTLE OF THE BANDS COMPETITIONS AROUND, WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE EMERGENZA?
We thought it was a great opportunity and found the Emergenza staff to be very friendly and personable. We are stoked to be involved in such a rad event.
