Inspired by the idea that time flies when you’re having fun—the weekends always seem too short—we can infer that this band spends most of their Sundays playing music. So, it won’t be a break from their routine when they go on stage this Sunday, June 22nd at The Espy for round one of Emergenza Festival Australia. Sunday Heist will try to steal the show—no pun intended—with their high-energy indie rock. But, before they go on stage, they hang out with us and answer a few of our questions.
HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE NAME SUNDAY HEIST?
Well, we were trying to think of a name that fits our sort of style and personalities, and our drummer Tyler came up with Sunday Heist. The meaning behind Sunday Heist is you have a good weekend then you get to Monday and you feel live you've been robbed. Essentially the best day of the week, Sunday, comes and goes so quickly.
WHO PLAYS WHAT IN THE BAND AND WHAT KEEPS YOU INSPIRED TO PLAY MUSIC TOGETHER AS A BAND?
Callum sings and plays guitar, Luke plays bass, Alex lead guitar and Tyler's on the drums. We are constantly inspired by the different music and artists we all listen too, all of which inspires us to write new songs and perform live.
IF YOU COULD DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND IN THREE WORDS, WHAT WOULD THEY BE?
Definitely not terrible.
WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR MAJOR MUSICAL INFLUENCES?
Many of our influences are based off artists who we grew up listening too such as The Beatles. As well as modern rock acts like The Arctic Monkeys who have catchy guitar riffs and are heavily lyrically driven.
WHAT'S THE CRAZIEST THING YOU'VE DONE TOGETHER AS A BAND?
We haven't done many crazy things as a band yet. Although our singer Callum refuses to wear pants when he records vocals. “It restricts my musical flow.”
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST ABOUT YOUR SHOW AT THE ESPY?
The opportunity to play at such a well renowned venue. It will be a great experience for us and we get to do what we love, which is playing our music on stage.
WITH OTHER BATTLE OF THE BANDS COMPETITIONS AROUND, WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE EMERGENZA?
The Emergenza Festival is a great opportunity for all unsigned bands. So many great bands have played at The Espy in the past and Emergenza is giving us the amazing opportunity to perform there too.
