Hanging Out Before the Show With Crossbone Carnival

Before they hit the stage at The Espy this Sunday Melbourne rockers Crossbone Carnival take a break from rocking out to sit down and chat with us

Crossbone Carnival are no strangers to hard rocking. They’ve got a repertoire of blues riffs and beats under their belts to compete with the best. And they understand the importance of getting their audience into the show. Don’t miss your chance to see their high-energy, groovy, blues rockin' show this Sunday, June 22nd at The Espy when they compete in the first round of Emergenza Festival Australia. And while you’re waiting for them to go on, check out what the band had to say in this pre-show interview.

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE NAME CROSSBONE CARNIVAL?
We got the name of the band after the lead singer, Dallas, joined the band. After Dallas listened to our tunes for a period of time he thought to himself the name, Crossbone Carnival best describes what he heard from the variety of music we have, amazing... Dallas put the name to the boys at rehearsals and we all liked it. It's original. We are like a carnival because anything goes and it's always eventful when we are together.

WHO PLAYS WHAT IN THE BAND AND WHAT KEEPS YOU INSPIRED TO PLAY MUSIC TOGETHER?
Dallas D on vocals, Mick Tish on lead guitar, Dylan Reeves on rhythm guitar, Ryan Beale on bass, and Graeme Morris on drums. Everyone in the band has different taste in music. We're all inspired by the passion for all the different types of music we listen to and the concerts we have been over the years. Also, the feeling we get from playing music and the pleasure we get out of it. Making original songs also inspires us.

IF YOU COULD DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND IN THREE WORDS, WHAT WOULD THEY BE?
    Rock 'N metal Carnival.

WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR MAJOR MUSICAL INFLUENCES?
If we were to pick one each... Tish is influenced by Jimi Hendrix, Dallas by Elvis Presley, Dylan by Avenged Sevenfold, Ryan by Death, Graeme by Johnny O'Keith.

WHAT'S THE CRAZIEST THING YOU'VE DONE TOGETHER AS A BAND?
We once hired a motel room then sneaked our instruments and friends in. We locked the door and setup our equipment and played and rocked it until eventually we were kicked out...

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST ABOUT YOUR SHOW AT THE ESPY?
The opportunity to play at the venue. The band's looking forward to the challenge that's on offer and see how far we can go! And playing in front of a good-sized crowd.

WITH OTHER BATTLE OF THE BANDS COMPETITIONS AROUND, WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE EMERGENZA?
We chose to go with Emergenza because of their professionalism, and we are happy with the way Emergenza is organized. Oh, and we want to play in Germany, of course!
