With influences ranging from Lamb of God to Sepultura, there’s no doubt that Melbourne band The Weight of Silence lays down some heavy grooves. Don’t miss your chance to witness one of their face melting performances this Friday, June 20th at The Espy when they go on for round one of Emergenza Festival Australia. In the meantime, check out what the band had to say about how they got the name, what sets them apart from other metal bands and what they’ve got in store for their fans this Friday
HOW DOES THE NAME THE WEIGHT OF SILENCE EPITOMIZE THE BAND?
Silence can be both one of the heaviest and most deafening things in our world, mentally and physically. The name The Weight Of Silence is an extension of that feeling and an expression of the power and emotion held within our music
HOW DID YOU FIRST GET INTO METAL AND WHAT SETS YOU APART FROM OTHER BANDS IN THE GENRE?
As teenagers growing up in the Phillip Island area, we were exposed to a strong independent music scene, with metal being one of the more prominent genres in the scene. Going to local metal shows with mates was the catalyst for our passion and drive. As a three-piece band, we pride ourselves on having endless power and energy. We strive to deliver the most ferocious and powerful show possible.
IF YOU COULD DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND IN THREE WORDS, WHAT WOULD THEY BE?
Heavy, Rhythmic, Powerful.
WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR MAJOR MUSICAL INFLUENCES?
Lamb of God, Metallica, Machine Head, Slayer, Strapping Young Lad, Sepultura.
WHAT'S THE CRAZIEST THING YOU'VE DONE TOGETHER AS A BAND?
Well there was this one time... wait, I can't say that! Never mind, next question...
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST ABOUT YOUR SHOW AT THE ESPY?
We are really keen for the opportunity to play in front of a new audience, along side a lot of other great bands. And of course the opportunity to play The Espy is always one to look forward to.
WITH OTHER BATTLE OF THE BANDS COMPETITIONS AROUND, WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE EMERGENZA?
Emergenza is a massive international event, with the biggest pool of bands and the largest prizes. The events are run in world-renowned venues in front of packed crowds. Win or lose, it's an opportunity to discover fans, bands and friends we never would have otherwise.
