The young girls of SheWolf have an old school approach to rock and roll, taking influence from classic acts like Black Sabbath and AC/DC—strong rhythm sections and blues rock inspired vocal lines power their live performances. You won’t want to miss them on stage at The Espy this Friday, June 20th for round one of Emergenza Festival Australia. Before the show, they sit down to talk to us about their inspiration, aspirations, and what’s in store for their upcoming gig at The Espy.

HOW DOES THE NAME SHEWOLF EPITOMIZE YOUR BAND?
It promotes a strong confident female figure, which is what we try to embody—also we really like wolves.

WHO PLAYS WHAT IN THE BAND AND WHAT KEEPS YOU INSPIRED TO PLAY MUSIC TOGETHER AS A BAND?
Serena is our main vocalist; Cassandra is our lead guitarist and sings back up vocals; Ellen is our bass player and also sings back up vocals; Nikki is our drummer. We all enjoy each other's company, and it's the happiest when we are together and getting to play music and share our passion—makes it all the more worthwhile.

IF YOU COULD DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND IN THREE WORDS, WHAT WOULD THEY BE?
Original, complex, honest.

WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR MAJOR MUSICAL INFLUENCES?
Greenday, The Pretty Reckless, Orianthi, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Deep Purple, Bon Jovi, Black Sabbath.

WHAT'S THE CRAZIEST THING YOU'VE DONE TOGETHER AS A BAND?
We played a show at a market out the front of a church, at an apparently inappropriate volume for the setting... they unplugged us.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST ABOUT YOUR SHOW AT THE ESPY?
We love every show we play because it allows us to share our passion with our loved ones and our new and growing fan base, and the opportunity to play at such an iconic venue just adds that extra something special.

WITH OTHER BATTLE OF THE BANDS COMPETITIONS AROUND, WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE EMERGENZA?
It is the next step forward for us. The fact that this event is run globally is such an amazing opportunity and we can't wait to see what it holds for us.
