Hanging Out with Grunge Rockers Recrudescence

Recrudescence takes time out before their show at The Espy this Friday to talk musical influences, live gigging and more

Hard-hitting grunge rockers Recrudescence are as sweet in person as their music is heavy on the ears. In this interview with the band before they take their energetic live show to the stage The Espy for round one of Emergenza Festival Australia, they show us just how nice rockers can be. Recrudescence talks to us about their influences, how they got their name, and what they are looking forward to most about playing the iconic Espy.

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE NAME RECRUDESCENCE?
Our bass player, Aiden, was in search of a name to reflect our stance as a band and he found the word "recrudescence" which means "a new outbreak after a period of abatement or inactivity". We have all known each other all of our lives and when we started a band, we thought this was a suitable term to show what we stand for and who we are.

WHO PLAYS WHAT IN THE BAND AND WHAT'S YOUR LIVE SET UP LIKE?
I'm Michael, and I play guitar and sing in the band, our bass player is Aiden, and our drummer is Alex. Our live set-up is very simple as we are a three-piece. It is me on the left side of stage with my mic and my guitar with only one gain pedal, Aiden on the right side of stage with his bass going directly into his amp and Alex behind his drumkit.

IF YOU COULD DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND IN THREE WORDS, WHAT WOULD THEY BE?
    Simple, heavy, energetic.

WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR MAJOR MUSICAL INFLUENCES?
I think I can speak on behalf of the band and say that Kurt Cobain is a major influence for all of us because of his musical creativity and Dave Grohl because of his musical diversity and talent.

WHERE HAVE YOU PLAYED BEFORE AND WHAT WOULD A DREAM GIG BE FOR YOU?
We have played at venues like Sooki Lounge, Cherry Bar and other local music venues. As for a dream gig for us I would say Reading Festival in England, it always delivers an amazing show with amazing artists.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST ABOUT YOUR SHOW AT THE ESPY?
We are all looking forward to the energetic atmosphere, the iconic venue and a chance just to do what we all love to do.

WITH OTHER BATTLE OF THE BANDS COMPETITIONS AROUND, WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE EMERGENZA?
Emergenza reflects what every upcoming band wants to have, an opportunity to play their own music and have a great time doing it, Emergenza supplies this very well.
