All girl pop rockers Children Of Indigo don’t just like to dress up and wear strange colours of lipstick for no reason—it’s all part of their kick ass show, where they play loud and hard (even known to break equipment along the way). So, you better be getting pumped up to see them play this Friday, June 20th at The Espy for round one of Emergenza Festival Australia. Before they hit the stage, these kids sit down to indulge a few of our curiosities about the band.
HOW DOES THE NAME CHILDREN OF INDIGO EPITOMIZE THE BAND?
The name Children of Indigo came from ‘Indigo Children’ who were supernatural children of the 90’s. To be quite honest, we just thought the name sounded cool and it gives us an excuse to act all mystic and wear stick on jewels and colourful lipstick.
WHO PLAYS WHAT IN THE BAND AND WHAT KEEPS YOU INSPIRED TO PLAY MUSIC TOGETHER?
Kara Moss on vox, Liana T. on lead guitar, The Raif cousins on bass (Kayla) and keys (Alanna) and Kasia on drums. There are a few things that keep up inspired to play: firstly, our band mentor (who constantly tells us we’re going to break up) uses reverse psychology to subconsciously keep us together. Secondly, we were all mates before starting a band so playing together is just another opportunity for all of us to hang and catch up.
IF YOU COULD DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND IN THREE WORDS, WHAT WOULD THEY BE?
Pop, rock, sass.
WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR MAJOR MUSICAL INFLUENCES?
Aesthetically: Lorde is our major influence. Sound wise: The Black Keys, Coldplay, Paramore and One Republic.
WHAT’S THE CRAZIEST THING YOU’VE EVER DONE TOGETHER AS A BAND?
Before we answer this question, we need to establish two things: when we rock, we rock loud and hard. So the craziest thing we’ve ever done—unintentionally—is break our rehearsal space’s equipment during long rehearsals.
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST ABOUT YOUR SHOW AT THE EPSY?
Getting exposer in the industry and performing in front of our friends and fans. And of course, just because we’re an all girl band, dressing up is also something we’re all looking forward to.
WITH OTHER BATTLE OF THE BAND COMPETITIONS AROUND, WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE EMERGENZA?
We’ve heard great things from other bands and fans who have been to see other Emergenza acts before. The venues you hold your gigs at are well known places and we’ve never played. It’s a great platform for up and coming artists and we love getting a chance to show our original music.
