Taking influence from bands like Pantera, Iron Maiden, and Slayer, Hammerhead have speed metal running through their young veins. They can’t wait to thrash all over the stage at The Lair next Sunday, June 1st in the first heat of Emergenza Festival Australia. Before they do though, they sit down to answer a few of our questions.

HOW DOES THE NAME HAMMERHEAD METAL EPITOMIZE YOUR SOUND?
The name Hammerhead means to hammer your head. Our music is like that—just hammer your head till you're dead!

WHO PLAYS WHAT IN THE BAND AND WHAT KEEPS YOU INSPIRED TO PLAY MUSIC TOGETHER AS A BAND?
I have had a few people in our band but I recently got a new drummer, Christian Anderson. My other mate Cooper Excell will be playing bass on the night. All our interests in music are what keeps us together to thrash!

WHAT GOT YOU INTO THE THRASH SCENE?
I love anything that's fast. I am into thrash metal because of the speed!

WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR MAJOR MUSICAL INFLUENCES?
Some of my major musical influences are in no particular order: Metallica, Exodus, Slayer, Pantera, Iron Maiden, D.R.I., Megadeth, Suicidal Tendencies and Violator!

WHAT'S THE CRAZIEST THING YOU'VE DONE TOGETHER AS A BAND?
We used to perform in our school music room, but then one day the teachers wouldn't let us in. There were a lot of people who wanted to see us play so they started going around the school chanting, “HAMMERHEAD, HAMMERHEAD!” Apparently, our principal told us that we were rioting! The craziest thing we know though is one of our fans called Chris “Crazy”!

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST ABOUT YOUR SHOW AT THE LAIR?
The people. Watching people react to your music is the best thing when you play music live. I'm also looking forward to it, because it's gonna be the BEST SHOW EVER!

WITH OTHER BATTLE OF THE BANDS COMPETITIONS AROUND, WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE EMERGENZA?
I chose Emergenza because they contacted me first. haha!
