Prolific up and coming singer songwriter Cynthia Su puts out a new, edgy take on classic RnB, layering it with jazz and bass beats. She’s a hard working girl, putting her energy into various collaborations with top producers and bands in Australia and abroad. Before she graces the stage at The Lair in Sydney for Emergenza Festival Australia next Thursday, May 29th, this fearless competitor sits down to answer a few of our questions.

WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR INSPIRATION FROM TO WRITE ORIGINAL MUSIC?
From real life, past experiences, and events that have happened to me. Feelings that I have tried to capture through lyrics and melody.

WHAT'S YOUR LIVE SET UP LIKE?
Dynamic... the sets I played in Hong Kong with my band THE DELIVERANCE were edgy and music that fused well to recreate the emotions and studio sounds from my E.P. SOUL D.N.A. My band in Australia is more jazzy and has bounce as opposed to the bass and up tempo sounds of The Deliverance… Generally my music is both soulful and edgy... with layered sounds in between....

IF YOU COULD DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND IN THREE WORDS, WHAT WOULD THEY BE?
Reflective, neo-soul, romantic.

WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR MAJOR MUSICAL INFLUENCES?
Sade, Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey, Amy Winehouse, Jeff Buckley, John Legend.

WHERE HAVE YOU PLAYED IN THE PAST AND WHAT WOULD BE A DREAM GIG FOR YOU?
Played in Hong Kong and Sydney. Metro Theatre, Sydney Opera House and worldwide venues would be a dream.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST ABOUT YOUR SHOW AT THE LAIR?
Getting my original music exposed and heard and really having people take me seriously as an original artist with a very edgy and "fresh & unique" perspective on things. Playing with a full band with backing vocalists.

The brand and professionalism, and hopefully follow up, with media exposure to get seen and heard
