HAYBAX: Getting Geared Up for The Espy

This acoustic guitar duo from Melbourne shares their enthusiasm on playing live at The Espy this coming May 9th

The guys of HAYBAX just love playing great music and sharing the happiness they feel when playing live to their audience. They are chomping at the bit to get on stage at The Espy for round one where they’ll have a chance to expand their growing fan base and have a shot at getting through to the later rounds of Emergenza Festival Australia. Make sure to come down to see them May 9th at The Espy, and in the meantime, read what HAYBAX had to say before the show:

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE NAME HAYBAX?
Interesting story of being told our original name me&him was trademarked so were forced to change the name right before a gig and had less then a day to come up with name. All in all HAYBAX was result of a well thought out process of combining my last name with Jason's nickname Baxy, hence HAYBAX.

WHAT KEEPS YOU INSPIRED TO PLAY MUSIC TOGETHER?
We both love performing and love music. Music has always been around us and, we naturally connect with it and feel so good whenever we play or write something new. Plus we don't mind hanging out so much together, haha.

WHAT DIFFERENTIATES YOU FROM OTHER ACOUSTIC SINGER SONGWRITERS?

We are as real as it gets; our music is from real feelings and experiences. We love life, love being happy, love being with people and want our music to bring all of that and more and bring people together to have a good time! Our sound is something produced just naturally; we haven't based ourselves off anyone or anything, but just to be unique!

ANY GUITARISTS THAT PARTICULARLY INFLUENCE YOUR PLAYING STYLE?
There are a lot of people we love: Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, Mat McHugh, Of Monsters and Men, The Lumineers. There are so many more.

WHERE HAVE YOU PLAYED BEFORE AND WHAT WOULD YOUR DREAM GIG BE?
We have played at The Espy, around the city Southbank and St. Kilda area, Torquay, pretty much from city and out west at the moment in lots of venues. Our dream gig… mmmm… a pumping outdoor bar right on the beach, tons of fans and just making everyone not want to be anywhere else but with us having an awesome time!

HOW ARE YOU PREPARING FOR THE SHOW AT THE ESPY?
We are reaching out to those who follow us to come down but to bring new people as well. Using our social media to get exposure and to connect with new fans!!

WITH OTHER BATTLE OF THE BANDS COMPETITIONS AROUND, WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE EMERGENZA?
We have had a friend play and enjoy it so we thought it would be a good chance to gain some exposure and enjoy playing music. Emergenza has a great pathway so we hope to follow it all the way.
